Front of House Volunteer

Petit Miracle Interiors is a registered charity providing accredited design training, DIY & upcycling workshops to vulnerable adults in local community. We divert items from landfill, occupy vacant property all whilst creating social value. We are proud to be the only London based design and upcycling charity, using art and design to increase people’s employability and to improve the home life of vulnerable people. We teach accredited Level One and Two Interior Design courses, as well, up-cycling workshops. All our training is completely open access and provides practical skills, builds confidence and increases employability.

Some of the tasks you can help with:

·  Opening & closing the shop
·  Welcoming & helping customers
·  Creating aesthetic furniture displays / ·  Merchandising the shop
·  Team working with lead volunteer & others
·  Categorising & tidying the books for free section / ·  Selling furniture
·  Participate in the workshop by learning traditional skills

Your skills & experience: You do not need to have loads of retail experience but awesome customer service is essential. So long as you are happy to learn, we’re happy to train you. You need to be proactive and interested in greeting customers warmly, comfortably selling our beautiful furniture and generally being helpful to other volunteers and customers. You’ll need to be able to work as part of a team and independently.

Commitment required:

Shift patterns: we do our best to accommodate each volunteers needs, in exchange we ask for a regular timeslot each week, minimum shift length is 4 hours and maximum is 8 hours depending on your availability.

Duration: This is a flexible opportunity but we would ask for at least 2 months commitment.

Qualifications?

You do not need to have any formal qualifications to volunteer with us, just a desire to learn and give your time. We can teach you on the job, either retail customer service skills or workshop, basic DIY skills. This will be covered in your induction, and a copy of your chosen role will be given to you.

CRB Check cleared?

We do not require all our volunteers to be CRB checked, only volunteers which are promoted to a permanent role will be required to undergo a check. It is only the permanent volunteers that will ever be left alone with our vulnerable adult groups.

You can find our policy and procedure manual in the office, on the bookshelf behind the door. Please read this as you have the time, as a matter of course, try to read one policy per shift. You can sign off that you have read and understood the policy at the beginning of each section.

Locking up?

Unless you are a permanent volunteer the Workshop Manager or Director will be responsible for locking up.

You can store your personal belongings in either the staff room or the office

Smoking, drinking –where and when?

In each 6-8 hour shift you are entitled to a 30 minute and 15 minute break.

In each 4-6 hour shift you are entitled to a 30 minute break.

In each shift 4 hours and less you are entitled a 15 minute break.

Please eat your meals at these times (not in front of customers though) Please be aware that drinking alcohol is not permitted whilst on shift.
