Algebra II/Trigonometry Fall 2015Course Contract Mr. Troesch, Instructor

Course Description:

Introduction to functions, rational expressions and their applications, rational exponents, conic sections, nonlinear systems of equations, intervals, inequalities, operations on functions, inverse functions, graphing polynomial and rational functions, binomial theorem, exponential and logarithmic functions, and trigonometric functions and formulas.

Course Objectives:

Students Will Be Able To (SWBAT):

Perform necessary steps using appropriate materials and understand ideas/concepts to solve problems from the topics listed in the tentative course outline.

Students will:

  • Arrive to each class with proper supplies, such as paper, pencils, and graphing calculators, etc.
  • Engage in active classroom participation.
  • Turn in homework assignments on time.
  • Ask questions of classmates (during appropriate times) and teacher(s) when needed.
  • Follow all New York City Department of Education mandated policies, the High School for Math, Science, and Engineering @ City College New York Academic Integrity policies, and policies established by the teacher(s) and/or the students.
  • Conduct themselves with honor and abide by the Chancellor’s Regulations and the High for Math Science Engineering Academic Integrity Code.
  • Bring required materials to each class: graph paper, a notebook, and a graphing calculator (make sure it is one of the following models: TI-83, TI-83+ or the TI-84 or 84 silver edition).

CCSS Objectives:

  • Extend the domain of trigonometric functions using the unit circle.Standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSF.TF.A.1 – 4
  • Model periodic phenomena with trigonometric functions. Standards:CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSF.TF.B.5 – 7
  • Prove and apply trigonometric identities. Standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSF.TF.C.8 – 9

Academic Integrity:

Students are expected to conduct themselves with honor and abide by the Chancellor’s Regulations and The High School for Math, Science, & Engineering’s Academic Integrity Code.

Classroom Expectations:

  • To assign homework and will check it daily.
  • To assess student progress through periodic testing and alternate forms of assessment.

Grading Policy:

Students’ grades will be based on the following components--

  • 60% -- assessments (tests/quizzes)
  • 20% -- homework
  • 20% -- class work/participation
  • Regular attendance – Students, when absent, are responsible for obtaining lesson information, notes, and homework assignments from classmates or from the website. Students are also responsible to make arrangements to make-up any missed exams.

Late Paper Policy:

HSMSE Instructors accept late work and return them with comments but do not have to credit them, if there is no legitimate, documented excuse.
