Architect of Hope Research Paper

Final Project Due Friday April 8th2016

Plescia

The Social Issues Architect of Hope research paper is the second of three projects this semester. Your main goal is to describe the positive contributions that this person has made to this world. How is the life of this person an example of the difference that one person can make? How did this person inspire others? What was the end result of the person’s work and determination to encourage change? Is their effort a continual work in progress?

To ensure a top notch paper, you are to adhere to the following guidelines given below. Each component must be typed and submitted in proper format or it will not be accepted!

Component #1

Due Friday February, 26th.

What do you know? What have you learned thus far?

Please respond to the following questions using complete sentences. Your response must be two double-spaced pages.

  1. What do you know about your influential person of hope? Why did you choose this person? What questions do you have? What resources will you use to answer these questions?-you will name at least two of them in this response and only one may be an internet source. Do you have a personal connection to anything this person has done? What do you hope to take away from this project? What do you hope to learn?

Component #2

Due Tuesday, March 1st.

Find anarticle -if it is from the internet it must be from an official site, like TIME or Newsweek-that is either devoted to or related to your architect’s achievements. Remember, you want to use this information in your final paper. You must answer the following questions in at least one typed page.

  1. Who wrote the article? From which source does this article come? What, specifically, is the article about? Is there any sort of a bias? How does it help you address the questions you have from component #1?

Component #3-this is a bigger component

Due Friday, March 4th

Research check

I will check your research binder to be sure that you have conducted considerable research. You will have photocopied bits of research that you have high-lighted. You will have at least three different articles related to your research that you did NOT use for component #2. You must use at least three different search engines (Yahoo, Bing etc) and ONE must from DeeperWeb.com. These articles must be high-lighted with annotations in the margins. You will also need to include a half page summary of which engines worked well, which didn’t and why.

Component #4

Due Tuesday, March 8 th

Outline

You will create an outline for me that will demonstrate you have a clear understanding of the focus of your paper and the direction you want your paper to take. I do not want a simple outline-you will create a detailed outline showing me you’ve completed a considerable amount of research and you are ready to start writing.

Component #5

Due Friday, March 11 th

Introduction

It’s time to start writing. You will submit to me the first page of your paper. In your introduction I want to have a clear understanding of who this person is, his/her contribution to society and why you chose this person for your research paper.

Component #6

Due Tuesday, March 15th

Article component repeat #2-same format. You must also find several on line videos (5 minute minimum) that includes a profile on your person or their project. You will type a one page response explaining your subject’s greatest achievement and why you believe it to be great.

Component #7

Due Friday March 18th

Bibliography

You will submit your bibliography in proper format. I expect you to rely on a variety of sources (books, magazines, newspapers and the occasional internet source). Remember ANY information that you quote directly or even paraphrase must be cited-otherwise you are plagiarizing.

Component # 8

Due Tuesday March 21st

Rough Draft

You must submit a rough draft of your paper. This is an opportunity to have your peers read it through and offer suggestions. Your rough draft must have an introduction, body and conclusion-this should be roughly four pages. Although this is not a polished version of your paper, I expect to be close to ready for submission.

Component #9

Due Friday March 25th

Visual Interpretation

You will create a “visual interpretation page” which will become the cover of your final paper. As you create this collage, keep the visual images you have seen as you have conducted your research. You cover page must be created on one piece of 8 ½ by 11” piece of paper.

Component #10

Due Tuesday March 29th

The additional pages you will need to make sure your paper is complete-a second, more detailed rough draft.

Each of these components are worth 10-20 points-therefore the process of writing this paper will be at least 100 points.
