THINGS THE COUNSELORS WANT YOU TO KNOW

  • Counselors are a great resource for students and parents for much more than signing up for classes. We will help with issues that could be academic, social or emotional in nature.
  • Counselors can help by suggesting and implementing specific learning strategies for your student to work in tandem with teachers while taking advantage of the subject specific learning sessions during ASAP or finding creative solutions to test taking stress.
  • Counselors will help monitor your student during times of family stress or prolonged illness by letting teachers know what is going on if necessary. We will also be an internal resource for your student to go to just for someone to listen.
  • Counselors can provide you and your student with lots of information about colleges, including the important baseline criteria that must be met to be considered for admission so that even as a freshman, your student can start thinking about what they have to do in high school.
  • Counselors can explain the ins and outs of early bird classes, AP classes,PE waivers and planning future goals.
  • Counselors recommend your student utilize a planner or calendar. By reinforcing the use of the planner/calendar at home, your student will always know what the goals are for the week, the month, the semester.
  • Counselors need you to help us enforce the policies listed in the Student/Parent Handbook. Counselor will partner with parents to encourage students to be resilient in the face of conflict.

Students, parents, teachers and the high school counselor are each an integral part of the educational process. We must all be involved in order to make sure your student gets the most out of the high school experience.
