ACONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN SCHOOLGIRLSBASKETBALL TEAM AND ITS FINE COACH ONTHEIR IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2016SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS (SCACS) CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, supremely ready for the challenge, the girls basketball team of Lighthouse Christian School (LCS)in Abbeville drove past Fountain Inn Christian4833 to net the 2016SCACS Class A State Championship, held on February 19, 2016, at Grace Christian School in West Columbia; and

Whereas, the court echoed with the cheers of exuberantLCS fans, pleased to see their confident predictions of victory realized as a satisfying end to an excellent 133 season; and

Whereas, making a sweet triumph even sweeter, this championship wingave the Lady Mariners theirfirst state title in the program’s sevenyear history. It also brought them the distinction of being the first sports team in the history of their school to bring home a state championship in any sport; and

Whereas, by the end of the title game, the Lady Mariners’many admirers were already looking with anticipation toward a repeat performance next year; and

Whereas, such victories do not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With proven consistency in both, Coach Carey Blanchett has built his girls basketball program into championship caliber and trained his athletes not to settle for second best; and

Whereas, throughout the season, freethrow shooting usually had been a deciding factor for the LCS players, and it played a strong role for them in the title game, as well: the Mariners converted 14 of 18, while Fountain Inn made just 5 of 15 attempts. In addition, outstanding teamwork helped land the victory for LCS; and

Whereas, the Lady Mariners have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the General Assembly is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such an outstanding group of young athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Lighthouse Christian Schoolgirls basketball team and its fine coach ontheir impressive win of the 2016South Carolina Association of Christian Schools (SCACS) Class AState Championship title.
