BOB: I’m Bob, the Senior Vice President and Treasurer of UnitedHealth Group.

SCOTT: Hi, I’m Scott, I’m the Vice President of finance and comptroller of Optum Health

JAZMIN: My name is Jasmine. I work with Medicare and Retirement and I’m a Financial Analyst

MAX: Hi, I’m Max with UnitedHealth Group Corporate Treasury working in their Investment Management Group and I’m a Senior Treasury Analyst.

GRAPHIC: What’s unique about Finance & Accounting at UnitedHealth Group?

BOB: Working in the UnitedHealth Group Finance and Accounting program is unique. You’re going to be working on strategic projects with outstanding people. You’re just not going to be along for the ride, you will be driving the boat.

JAZMIN: When I was a student looking for opportunities I was almost scared because I knew it was such a big corporation; however since I’ve been here I’ve realized that with its size come tremendous opportunities.

MAX: You are making large impact. You are given decision-making abilities and the ability to really make a difference.

BOB: As soon as you join United you are a colleague; you are part of the solution; you are part of the team.

GRAPHIC: What’s the entry point for interns and new grads?

SCOTT: We have two primary paths when we develop college hires here at UnitedHealth Group. First, we have an internship program. The second area is where we just hire right out of college and people start full-time.

JASMINE: You are given a project throughout the summer that exposes you to a lot of different areas of the company because you are put with different interns that are working in different departments.

MAX: I started my career here as an intern actually after my junior year where I came on as a financial analyst intern. I got placed in their corporate treasury just kind of based on some of my interests and some of my skills.

GRAPHIC: What kind of impact can you have here?

BOB: By being part of this program you’re going to get the opportunities to work on some of the most innovative issues and items that are facing the health care industry today.

MAX: The impact that I make on both myself, my group and the company is a great one. I’m working on a lot of different things in terms of data analytics; in terms of aggregating data; making investments decisions. Helping look at new investments. As well as day to day processing with trades and learning the investments that we hold.

GRAPHIC: How is performance recognized?

SCOTT: I would say that out of the places where I’ve worked in my career, United Health Group has the best process and approach to that and really what you end up is an opportunity to be rewarded for great performance.

MAX: Because of my accomplishments and because of my hard work and the impact that I’ve made on my team I think that was something that was obviously recognized. Even in a short period of time I was able to make a large impact in my group and in my career.

SCOTT: When it comes to compensation, our philosophy is we’re going to pay for performance and if you’re exceeding expectations you’re going to be rewarded.

GRAPHIC: How do people grow and advance?

SCOTT: It really starts with your individual relationship with your manager. Having them understand what your interest, desires and skills are. Having them help you get the opportunities and the experiences that you need and the coaching that you need as well.

JASMINE: You are given more challenging projects because that means that the people that you’re working for believe in what you’re doing and believe you have the capability of doing so, which gives you the opportunity to develop as a person and as a professional.

MAX: One of the things I’m most proud of is that this past year I was able to develop a SOX process based on our securities pricing. I worked with people around me in my team but I think also I was given the responsibility of doing it and they really put their trust in me. I think I came out on the other end really succeeding with it.

BOB: Because of the culture of UHG, you’re going to be able to participate in the most important projects in the company and you’re going to be able to write the history of UnitedHealth Group.
