1.  Dates and location:

The First Extraordinary Conference of States parties to the Inter-American Convention on the Prevention, Punishment, and Eradication of Violence against Women (Convention of Belém do Pará) will be held in Mexico City, Mexico, from October 23th to 24th 2014. The sessions will take place at Camino Real Polanco Hotel, located in Mariano Escobedo 700, Col. Anzures, 11590, Mexico City.

A program and detailed information will be provided during the registration of participants. Lunch will be offered to all the participants during the Conference, by the National Institute of Women (INMUJERES).

The Government of Mexico, through Inmujeres, will cover the participation of the representative of the Competent National Authority (ANC) and the invited panelists (flights and lodging). Please confirm the acceptance of this courtesy to the INMUJERES coordination and send the form of Hotel reservation (Annex II) properly completed.

If any delegation wishes to include more participants, it must cover the associated costs.

5. Flights:

It is recommended to make flight reservations of departure and return, as far in advance as possible and directly with the airlines or their travel agencies. International flights to/from Mexico City arrive and depart from Benito Juarez International Airport.

Several airlines fly direct routes to the international airport of Mexico City: Aeromexico, AVIATECA, Air France, American Airlines, Lan Chile, Lan Peru, Taca Varig, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Cubana de Aviacion, Continental Airlines among others.

6. Entry and exit requirements:

Participants requiring visas should apply , according to each case in Mexico embassies or consulates or in your country or place of residence. A list of information about the necessary visas to enter Mexico is attached (see Annex III).

The flat rate for the use of international airport is 197 mxn pesos for international flights (approximately US $15.50). There are some flights that already include the flat rate in the ticket price so in these cases it would not be necessary to pay the fee upon arrival.

7. Travel from the Airport to hotel:

It is highly recommended to delegations to use only taxi services from the International airport in Mexico City, located at the following sites:

•  Terminal 1: Domestic flights: Gate A, outside roads of gate A and national baggage claim. International flights: E2, E3 gates 10 door.

•  Terminal 2: Domestic flights: Gate D. International flights: Gate E 4 door

8. Languages and Working Papers:

The working sessions will be simultaneously interpreted into the four official languages of the OAS (English, French, Portuguese, Spanish).

9. Communications:

There will be a Delegates room with computers and internet access; local phone calls available. International calls however, should be made using the phones in your hotel rooms and it will be the responsibility of each participant to pay for these calls at or before check-out.

10. Currency:

The currency in Mexico is the peso, which on September 20th was valued at $13.25 for each US dollar. Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard or American Express) are generally accepted at most hotels and businesses. ATMs that operate 24 hours a day are available at hotels, shopping centers and near banks.

11. Weather:

In October the average temperature in Mexico City is between 8°C and 22 °C (47°F to 72°F).

The electrical current is 110 volts AC, 60 Hz

14. Health Care:

Health care will be available during the meeting. Any further medical expenses will be covered by the person concerned. Any medical expenses incurred will be covered by the participant. Please note that participants can buy travel insurance to avoid any unforeseen expenses due to accident, illness, liability for damages to third parties, temporary or permanent disability or death, which may arise during the trip or stay in Mexico. The Government of Mexico cannot take responsibility for these eventualities.

15. Security:

As a basic security measure, at all times please avoid taking taxis on the Street and wearing flashy jewellery. Those delegates wishing to stay in Mexico City by the weekend, we recommend using on-site taxis (either hotel or dispatched taxis).

16. Taxes:

All purchases in Mexico are subject to a 16% value added tax (IVA), with the exception of medicines and commodities.

17. Tips:

Tips are not included in restaurant bills. It is customary to tip between 10% and 15% of total consumption, depending on the service.
