Zeitounand the World Today Projects
There is a tremendous amount of background knowledge needed to fully appreciate and comprehend this book. How? You will begin to research a topic to present to the class. This will also help us to make educated comments within this unit.
Requirements: Each pair/group will present the key details of the research, relate the research to Zeitoun, work with an article AND/OR a political cartoon, have an interactive activity, and a Works Cited. You should plan to work on this outside of class.
- Provide a basic background of the topic (with some topics you will have to spent a bit more time on background because these topics are so unfamiliar)
- You must create an interesting, unique, and creative presentation. No lectures or full PowerPoint presentations with someone reading from the screen. Think interactive, and think about engaging your classmates. Think videos; the more visuals, the better! (Please do more than just Kahoot! We are not having students memorize anything you taught them! And if your presentation is interesting enough, they will pay attention and there is no reason to quiz them.)
- How do you think knowing about this topic will help the classes understanding of the book, Zeitoun? Make sure you reference parts of the book. Also, think about why am I having you look at this topic? How is it helpful to further your understanding with this unit as a whole? This might be a challenging question so see me with your thoughts!
- If you chose an article, you and your partner (group) should have a copy that is read and annotated to hand in to me. You should then have blank copies for the class. If the article is long, you can focus on part of it, but please give the class time to read it and mark it. (You may choose to give this as homework.)
- If you chose a political cartoon, you and your partner (group) should have a copy analyzed and annotated to hand in to me according to the lesson on analyzing political cartoons. You should have blank copies for the class and should have an activity where they are analyzing and discussing it.
- Have a Works Cited done properly, according to MLA style. Anything you read or view needs to be cited. This includes Zeitoun. If you have slides with facts and quotes, you must use in-text citation. Please use Noodletools to look up how to cite videos. Also, Mrs. Goldberg, our librarian, is a great resource.
Length = 10-15 minutes. Make sure it is AT LEAST TEN minutes. That means you should all practice before you present. Make sure to have a hard copy of all materials.
