SEDONA (THE MOVIE) COMING TO HARKINS THEATRES IN SEDONA, TUCSON AND SCOTTSDALE ON MARCH 16; FILM SHOT IN, AROUND SEDONA

Quirky, Feel-Good Film About Self Discovery Features Local Cast, Crew, Well-Known Stars

SEDONA, Ariz. (Dec. 9, 2011): Sedona, a quirky, feel-good movie shot in and around the Red Rocks and featuring Arizona actors and crew alongside notable performers Frances Fisher, Beth Grant and Barry Corbin, begins commercial theater screenings on March 16 at Harkins Theatres in Sedona, Tucson and Scottsdale.

Written, produced and directed by Sedona resident Tommy Stovall, whose first independent film, Hate Crime, earned strong reviews on its release in 2005, Sedona is about visitors to the mystical town of Sedona who encounter eccentric characters and a series of calamities that lead to unexpected miracles. Stovall based some of the film’s characters on real Sedona residents.

Screening times will be announced at Harkins Sedona 6, 2081 W. Highway 89 in Sedona; Harkins Tucson Spectrum 18, 5455 S. Calle Santa Cruz; and Harkins Shea 14, 7354 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale.

Sedona had an informal debut screening to sold-out crowds at the 2011 Sedona International Film Festival and was accepted into the Hollywood Film Festival in October. It will be featured in a special screening in Cambridge, Mass. on Dec. 19 as part of a tribute to Beth Grant.

The film will go into DVD and digital release after the theatrical launch.

In the movie, two inspiring stories of self-discovery intertwine over a day in mystical Sedona. One follows successful advertising executive Tammy (Frances Fisher) on her birthday as she drives from Portland to Phoenix to land the biggest client of her career. A wrong turn gets her lost and takes her into Sedona by mistake, where a local tour plane runs her off the highway right in the middle of town during an emergency crash landing. She's forced to wait in Sedona while her damaged car is repaired.

Across town, uptight lawyer Scott (Seth Peterson), vacationing with his partner Eddie (Matt Williamson) and their two young sons, embarks on a family day hike out in the forest among the majestic red rocks. Eddie has brought workaholic Scott to Sedona for some rest and relaxation. They wind up in an unexpected frightening adventure out on the hiking trails when their 7-year-old Denny (Trevor Stovall) gets lost.
