Job Description: Midday Supervisory Assistant
Grade B
Main purpose of the role:
· To secure the safety, welfare and conduct of pupils during the midday break period in accordance with the practices and procedures of the school
· To provide and support a range of engaging play activities outdoor play
· To interact with children, parents and staff in a friendly, caring manner
· To ensure that high standards are maintained at all times, in line with school policy and procedure
· To ensure that health and safety standards are maintained at all times
Reporting to:
The Senior MDSA (immediate line manager)
The School Admin (appraisal line manager)
The Principal (senior manager)
Main Duties:
1. Set out tables and chairs
2. Supervise children in the hall whilst they are having lunch
3. Carry out associated tasks e.g. serving, clearing spillages, cleaning tables and chairs, stacking and storing tables and chairs, sweeping floors
4. Supervise children in the playground during lunchtime play
5. Support the Sports Leaders who provide lunchtime sports activities
6. Provide alternative activities for children, activities that are varied, inclusive and engaging
7. Carry out first aid, as necessary
8. Provide for the safety and well-being of the children, taking account of each individual’s mental, social and emotional needs, in line with school policy and procedure
9. Pay close attention to safeguarding issues, following school policy and procedure
10. Maintain the highest standards of control and discipline
11. Model high standards of professional standards to the children, in line with school policy and procedure
12. Maintain a tidy environment, ensuring the hall and the playground is returned to a clear, tidy and clean state for the start of the afternoon work session
13. Ensure that all policies relating to the school are adhered to
14. Attend training, as required
15. Carry out other duties related to lunchtime activities, as deemed necessary by the Principal.
Qualification / Training Requirements
The MDSA must maintain up to date training:
1. Paediatric first aid
2. Foundation level safeguarding
3. PREVENT
4. CIEH level 2 (food handling)
5. Fire safety
6. All other training as deemed necessary by the Principal, or as required through legislation
Decision Making
The jobholder is expected to follow procedures to resolve routine day by day problems but to seek assistance, or approval to their recommendations, for anything more unusual.
Resources
The jobholder is responsible for:
· The safe handling and storage of lunchtime equipment, both indoor and outdoor
Working Environment
There is regular background noise and time out of doors in a variety of weathers. The work involves some lifting, crouching and stretching. There could be times when the member of staff may be required to work in other constrained or awkward positions e.g. when dealing with pupils.
There may occasionally be the need to deal with body fluids when giving personal care to pupils.
