Post Title: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Coordinator

Post Grade/Salary: TLR 2cii

Responsible to: AVP Science and Technology

Purpose

·  To lead on curriculum initiatives in extending the curriculum in relation to STEM across the academy;

·  To design curriculum programmes of study to support cross-curricular links, and enhance the academy’s curriculum in these areas for all pupils;

·  To promote outstanding teaching and learning in relation to the delivery of these programmes across the academy.

Actions of the post holder will have an impact on the future direction of curriculum. STEM Coordinator will ensure that pupil learning experience is within the highest possible qualities of provision.

Main Purposes of the Post

·  To act as the academy STEM Coordinator

·  To take the lead in programme and curriculum development.

·  To organise, structure and manage pupils’ learning experience on programmes of learning

·  To lead and manage programme teams so as to maintain the high quality of provision across the academy

·  To teach and assess on a range of academic / vocational courses and learning programmes

Range of Duties –STEM Coordinator

1.  To set up an internal STEM Group across Faculties and arrange meetings and produce an Action Plan.

2.  To work with Faculty staff to promote and develop STEM subjects

3.  To work with STEM teams to promote and develop STEM pathways

4.  To develop links with Higher Educational providers and AG&T Lead Teachers to explore vocational pathways and employer needs through the academy Pathways curriculum.

5.  To establish initiatives supporting STEM Subjects across the academy.

6.  Work with Heads of Department to enhance and enrich the whole STEM curriculum

7.  Work with any other relevant external agencies involved in promoting STEM subjects.

Range of Duties

1.  To lead the planning and delivery of the assigned curriculum

2.  To organise, structure and manage pupils’ learning experience including any necessary preparation and marking

3.  To monitor achievement and success rates

4.  To lead self-assessment, the identification of actions for improvement and the implementation of development plans

5.  To contribute to curriculum developments as required

6.  To ensure that new curriculum is proposed and appropriately validated in accordance with academy procedures

7.  To deliver planned, co-ordinated, high quality teaching

8.  To devise appropriate schemes of work, lesson plans and individual learning plans in accordance with academy policy and procedures

9.  To be conversant with, implement and record information for the continuous assessment of competencies, in line with the criteria as laid down by the awarding bodies

10.  To carry out such assessment as required by Awarding Bodies in a fair, consistent and reliable way

11.  To contribute to the development, delivery and assessment of pupil key skills / basic skills

12.  To maintain all relevant course documentation and pupil records in line with the relevant Quality Assurance Procedures

13.  To contribute to curriculum development

14.  To manage and chair curriculum team meetings as required

15.  To attend and be an active contributor to Team meetings, Faculty and Curriculum Area Meetings and other cross-college meetings as required

16.  To attend and be an active contributor to Curriculum Area, Faculty and Cross curricular events.

17.  To attend parents and open evenings

18.  To ensure that all learners have been referred to and are receiving learning support as necessary

19.  To liaise with Curriculum Leaders, tutors and other subject teachers as required.

20.  To liaise with appropriate agencies and organisations involved in related work

21.  To assist in the academy's planning process including the setting of targets for enrolment, retention and achievement and the reviewing and evaluation of provision and performance, including value added measures

22.  To take part in the recruitment, selection and induction of pupils.

23.  To lead with the monitoring and review of pupils performance

24.  To review pupil progress in any units taught and complete all relevant documentation

25.  To ensure learners are appropriately enrolled, withdrawn where necessary and adhere to registration and exam entry procedures

26.  To contribute to the implementation of the Faculty Team Plan

27.  To actively participate in planned professional self-development and team development activities
