Purpose of job:To inspire, motivate and support the inactive to become active through engagement with local communities, understanding barriers to participation and working to develop opportunities to address local needs. This role will be responsible for the development, co-ordination and delivery of LLGA community physical activity opportunities which will be specifically designed to target those who are inactive and to support individuals to participate in a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity per week.
Responsibilities:
1.1Support the development of LLGA physical activity projects via engagement with priority groups identified and agreed with the project lead including those living in the 10% most deprived communities within defined locality areas.
1.2To identify gaps in local area provision and develop tailored and targeted physical activity to support increased participation in physical activity of local population priority groups.
1.3Deliver physical activity and sport sessions to support increased participation in physical activity of local population priority groups.
1.4Develop links with existing community groups and utilise existing community facilities to support the provision of community physical activity opportunities.
1.5Inspire and attract new participants through engagement events, taster sessions and meetings at various times including evening and weekend work.
1.6Identify and facilitate opportunities to make LLGA physical activity programmes self-sustainable.
1.7Promote and sign post to appropriate wider physical activity and health and wellbeing programmes/services including other LLGA sessions in order to support increased physical activity and access to wider opportunities.
1.8Identify and support appropriate instructors, volunteers and/or coaches to deliver effective community physical activity programmes.
1.9Communicate effectively in formal and informal situations with a range of partners and participants by a variety of means.
1.10Develop and support the use of online forums and groups through social media and mobile technology to support community participants to engage and build connections in order to support retention and on-going participation in physical activity.
1.11Assist with the development of marketing and promotional materials appropriate to the individuals/groups worked with.
1.12Ensure appropriate administrative tasks are carried out for all projects as required to effectively monitor, evaluate and deliver sports and activity programmes.
1.13Provide reports and presentations as required on the development of the projects.
1.14Manage a small budget to effectively deliver the community programme, primarily staffing and venue hire.
1.15Travel to venues within Leeds areas to meet the needs of the organisation.
1.16Assist in the identification and undertaking of his/her own training and development requirements in accordance with the appropriate organisation employee development scheme.
1.17To undertake any other duties which may be assigned from time to time and that are commensurate with the grade of the post.
1.18To undertake the accountabilities of the post in accordance with council policies including the Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety policies.
Relationships
The post holder will be required to work closely with the staff from the Sports Service, Council Departments, Elected Members, volunteers, members of the public and other relevant organisations.

The post will be based at Leeds – John Charles Centre for Sport
Leeds City Council operates a non-smoking policy.
Economic conditions
Grade: / C1
Annual Leave: / 24 days per annum rising to 29 days per annum after 5 years continuous local government service, plus 8 statutory holidays (pro rata for part time working.)
Hours: / 37 hours per week
Flexitime: / Eligible to participate in flexi-time scheme

Prospects
Promotion
Whilst there is no automatic progression to any more senior posts, opportunities do exist for advancement and promotion, dependent upon normal staff movements and on the capabilities of the individual post holder.
Training
The Sports Service encourages training both “in-house” and external to meet the needs of the individual and of the Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educated to degree level or equivalent, or the experience and ability to work at this level (desirable).
UKCC Level 2 qualifications or equivalent physical activity instructor qualifications (various).
