PRACTICUM V

RTE 2844L Practicum V (4) (A.S.) Prerequisite: RTE 2834L. Corequisite: RTE 2563. 22.5 hours per week. A continuation of RTE 2834L with emphasis placed on advanced radiographic procedures. The student is encouraged to spend time in areas such as ultrasound, nuclear medicine and vascular imaging to gain insight into these postgraduate areas. Students attend one of the program’s affiliates and work under the direct supervision of a registered radiographer while performing radiographic procedures. Additional special fees are required.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

The student, at the successful completion of this course, should be able to:

  1. Interpret physicians’ orders correctly in determining radiographic procedures to be performed.
  2. Accurately document appropriate information acquired from the patient.
  3. Demonstrate satisfactory performance of radiographic procedures.
  4. Utilize problem-solving skills to make appropriate decisions related to patient care and procedures.
  5. Request proper supervision in performing procedures if required level of competency has not been met.
  6. Employ legal and ethical guidelines in administering patient care.
  7. Demonstrate initiative by seeking out learning experiences.
  8. Demonstrate behaviors which show empathy and appropriate interpersonal skills with patients and the health care team.
  9. Adhere to program/affiliate policies and procedures.
  10. Perform independently and satisfactorily in areas of previously proven competency.
  11. Satisfactorily complete all required mandatory competency exams.
  12. Satisfactorily complete a minimum of 15 elective competency exams
  13. Satisfactorily complete six capstone terminal competency examinations
  14. Satisfactorily complete (two) 2 random competency exams.
  15. Apply patient assessments skills to the clinical setting.
  16. Modify routine radiographic procedures to satisfactorily complete radiographic procedures on trauma patients.
  17. Utilize special radiographic projections when applicable.
  18. Satisfactorily perform arthrograms and myelograms.
  19. Identify structures of the upper and lower extremity, thorax, abdomen, spinal column, cranium, GI, urinary and nervous systems; on assigned radiographs, accurately.
