HOSPICE AT HOME VOLUNTEERS ROLE DESCRIPTION
THE ROLE OF THE HOSPICE AT HOME VOLUNTEER
- By providing additional support to those experiencing a life limiting illness and those that live with them, we provide care and support where it matters – in the home
- In the course of complimenting the statutory services we aim to provide time, emotional support and practical help where appropriate to enable people to continue living with dignity, respect and companionship
WE DO THIS BY – Tasks to be agreed with the client, volunteer and Co-ordinator at Introduction
- Companionship for those that live alone
- Companionship outside the family
- Recreational visits
- Practical help in the home (to be agreed)
- Respite for carer – shopping/vital errands/rest/carers support
- Take client to do some shopping
- Shopping for someone who is not well enough to go themselves
- Transport to appointments/carers support/drop in
- Visit client/patient when an in-patient on the unit
- Accompany client/patient when coming in to visit the KPCC or the unit and on discharge
- Any other request is considered so long as it is both agreed by all those concerned.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM COMMITMENT - ESSENTIAL
- 3 Hours per week+ (visiting client)
- To be able to attend Support Meetings + (monthly – either afternoon or evening)
- Attend appropriate Training Sessions at Keech Hospice (as and when required – refresher etc)
