Illuminati vs. Victorious Secret

In the midst of a stuffy gymnasium, the colors of purple and black were indistinguishable among the blurs of constant action. The smell of sweat entrenched the air as the sounds of tired breathing echoed throughout the gym. Beneath the mask of smoldering heat was an intense bubble of rivalry, straining to burst as the minutes ticked away. As equal contenders for the championship, both Illuminati and Victorious Secret were struggling to break the unending tie.

As if fate was on the side of the Victorious Secret, a cursed injury unexpectedly fell upon Illuminati’s star player, The Proof (aka Jordan Torres). Taking full advantage of the presented opportunity, the Victorious Secret redoubled their efforts and managed to pull ahead by two points. As the inevitable end was drawing near, panic and desperation could be felt by both teams, as one pushed to even the score and the other struggled to maintain the close lead. Yet in the final thunder-striking moment, the unforeseen occurred.

As quoted by Nate Dogg(Nate Hoffman), “At that moment, Chris’s ice was so cold, chicken soup wouldn’t help…”
“…the only thing that could, was victory,” finished Boshee(Chris Hybl).

Thus out of a final desperate attempt to “melt the ice” and “raise the temperature” came an ice-laden three-pointer from Victorious Secret’s very own Boshee, which ultimately determined the 2011 Y-league basketball champion.

With a team composed of mainly senior members such as Peter Pablo(Luke Peter), Nate Dogg(Nate Hoffman), Boshee(Chris Hybl), Swisher Sweet(Austin Swisher), The Bus Driver(Eric Doerneman), Rainman(Alec Maly), The Secret(Brogan Loibl), and Sugar Shane(Shane Brittian), the Victoria Secret franchise had managed to hold on to their strong record in their two years of playing Y-league.

When asked how they accomplished such a feat, they replied, “We are a cohesive unit that together shines brightly like the stars that led the Wise Men to Bethlehem.”

Though the Victorious Secret had won the championship, the Illuminati certainly deserved recognition for their outstanding performance in their first year. Made up of seniors and a few juniors such as Ho Master(Don Ho), MaxDaddy(Jarred Maxwell), The Proof(Jordan Torres),Rainman (Taylor Dietz and Steven Hamersky),X-Man(Xavier Mendoza), and *expletive* (Timmy Tran), the Illuminati made their presence a threat on the court with a striking record of only two losses in the season.

“With both teams being the best in the Y-league, it’s natural that rivalry was born,” said Ho Master (Don Ho).

Yet as the championship game concluded, there were no hard feelings an no animosity present between the two rivals. Members of both teams congratulated each other, and gave each other friendly pats on the backs and the butts like they were all close buds. Upon closer inspection, one would realize that they were indeed very close friends. In fact, according to Ho Master (aka Don Ho), 75 percent of all the teams in the Y-league were made up of Bishop Carroll students. In the Web Team’s mission of uncovering the secrets of Bishop Carroll students outside of school, we were able to dig up some pretty awesome stuff. Unbeknownst to many, the Bishop Carroll student body is involved in many things around the public community. Not only does BC pose as a threat in sports to all schools, but BC students are also a threat and dominationeven in non-school-related events such as Y-league basketball.

Being in Y-league basketball has made a positive impact upon these students. It creates an atmosphere for friendly competition, as well as allow for students to bond while doing a fun and positive activity. Members of both teams expressed their love of playing basketball at the Y-league.

“There’s no pressure, which makes it a place where we can just have fun,” said Torres.

“It is a positive environment to play in, and we can mess around while still showing our abilities,” said Ho.

“It’s a good way to get in shape for track, and it made me realize how much I loved basketball. I fell in love with it again because I was actually having fun,” commented Maxwell.

Altogether, it was a great end to the season for both teams. Both teams had put in their best effort and they both emerged as winners in their own terms.

“I wish we could have won,” said Maxwell, “but in the end, I’m still proud of the fact that despite being a first-year team, we were the only team to have blemished a two-year unblemished record. That’s my championship.”

Just like “the stars that led the wise men to Bethlehem,” these students have led the Bishop Carroll students to a domination of the Y-league. Hopefully their legacy will set a precedent for the future students to lead the Bishop Carroll community to a domination of the world.
