This position is based in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The Centers forAmerican Indian and Alaska Native Health at the University of Colorado Denveris seeking a professional candidate to work as a full-time Professional Research Assistant (PRA) on the RESPECT project as an Interventionist on its HIV-prevention intervention project. The grant for this research project provides funding for the prevention of AIDS/HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STI) and is targeted to high school students. This position will be trained in, and will administer the RESPECT counseling model to high school students to help reduce risky behaviors and encourage students to make healthy choices, especially about AIDS/HIV and STI prevention.

Examples of Work Performed
- Assist the FSC in organizing, scheduling, and administering the counseling at settings including but not limited to: community events, high schools, and hospital settings
- Complete all training required to counsel students in the RESPECT model
- Strategize with the FSC, school-based clinic staff, school nurses, other Interventionists, and Denver-based staff to efficiently collect all research project data and required documentation
- Responsible for ensuring that project data is collected in a manner consistent with the study protocol; organize, track, and monitor all aspects of project data.
- Work as a team member with other project research assistants involved in project implementation and data collection
- Work with tribal and community organizations, area schools, and youth groups to coordinate community input and feedback over the life of the project.
- The Interventionist will be a member of the Pine Ridge Field Office for the University of Colorado and will be expected to contribute to the operations of that office. These duties may include helping to answer questions from community members about activities, assist with other projects, and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Data collection for this study is based out of our field office in Pine Ridge, SD. The Principal Investigator and Project Director for this study are based in Denver, CO. This position requires the ability to function independently in the coordination of all aspects of this research study.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and observe strict rules of confidentiality and appropriate communication;
- Ability to administer counseling methods according to project protocol
- Experience in working with high school adolescents
- Attention to detail;
- Organization and efficiency;
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills;
- Familiarity with computer operations;
- Knowledge of Lakota language and culture preferred;
- Interest in HIV-prevention, school-based programs, and community health preferred.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and observe strict rules of confidentiality and appropriate communication;
- Flexibility in schedule
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook).Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of auto liability insurance, and be willing to travel reservation-wide, and occasionally out of state.
SalaryRange
$31,000 - $33,000 (commensurate with experience)
