“WWII Weekend”
June 5 -7, 2009, June 4-6. 2010, June 3-5, 2011
in your future itineraries of bus excursion trips.
Located at ReadingRegionalAirport in Reading, PA,Mid AtlanticAirMuseum’sWWII WEEKEND is thelargest, best-attended and most unique show of its kind in the nation. It has been listed as one of the top 10 living history shows by several magazines. It has drawn upwards of 30,000 visitors, of which approximately 60% return each year. What began as the re-creation of a WWII airfield 18 years ago has grown to encampments representing the European and Pacific Theaters of the War, an extensive home front display, more than 60 period aircraft, 200 vehicles and over a thousand living history re-enactors and entertainers.
The event has been called “Simply the BEST military show in the United States” by Militaria International Magazine. The event is much, MUCH more than an “airshow”. It’s actually six shows in ONE… an airshow, military vehicle show, a living history encampment and re-enactment, military collector’s show and flea market, 1940’s entertainment festival and a living classroom, providing the opportunity for visitors to listen to, meet and talk to many special WWII personalities. Mid AtlanticAirMuseum’sWWII WEEKEND transports you back in time to the most entertaining history lesson that you will receive all year.
This year on the first weekend in June, your tour riders can travel back in time and experience a “Total WWII History Emersion”, as all War fronts come to life.
Witness a G.I patrol encountering German troops holed-up in a French village. View an assault by U.S. armor and infantry troops on enemy positions. Watch as a battlefield medic stabilizes the wounded and then see how surgeons operate in a field hospital.
Get a feel for the far away South Pacific and then stroll through a slice of life on Main Street 1943. Marvel at more than 200 WWII vehicles from motorcycles and jeeps to armored cars and huge tanks.
More than 60 WWII era aircraft will bring the Reading Airfield back to life. Revel in the unforgettable sound of a radial engine running up, the drone of a B-17 or the roar of the Packard-Merlin powered P-51 Mustang.
Yes ENTERTAINMENT! Where else can you see and participate in a live war-time radio show with professional singers and period commercials, a traveling U.S.O style show from the back of a Sherman tank, a big band show and dance in the hangar, and laugh to the antics of Abbott and Costello. Participants may meet, up with authentic impersonators of President Franklin Roosevelt, General Douglass MacArthur and General George Patton.
FOOD-much better than K-Rations. Plenty of quality food vendors are available during the day offering a large variety of items to fit any taste. Your tourists may also pre-purchase a Friday Night Buffet Dinner or Saturday Night Chicken Barbecue Dinner.
This show offers something for everybody. Busses can drop off right at the gate. And since the venue is on airport grounds, it is flat, with many hard surfaces- making it handicap friendly. Emergency First Aid and Medical Services are also available.
