We are seeking to recruit maternity cover for our Programme and Touring Producer for an initial contract period of minimum 9 months (with possible extension up to 12 months). We are looking for an experienced, highly capable and dynamic person to join the team in this pivotal role in the development and delivery of our ambitious programme.

You will be joining Candoco at a busy time as our new Artistic Co-Directors, Ben Wright and Charlotte Darbyshire, begin their tenure with the company. During Autumn 2017, we are touring work by Yasmeen Godder, Trisha Brown, Hetain Patel, Arlene Phillips and Alexander Whitley throughout the UK and internationally. In December 2017 we will be reprising the company’s restaging of Jérôme Bel’s ‘The Show Must Go On’ with a tour of Paris as part of Festival d’Automne. Next year we are performing in South Korea as part of the Winter Cultural Olympiad and continuing to tour our productions, including appearances at Sadler’s Wells.

Candoco is privileged to have been awarded an increase in investment by Arts Council England as part of our 2018-22 National Portfolio Organisation funding.This enables us to contribute further to the Creative Case for Diversity and develop progression routes for disabled dancers with a comprehensive programme of training and artistic development.

PROGRAMME AND TOURING PRODUCER (MATERNITY COVER) – JOB DESCRIPTION

Scope of post:

To position Candoco Dance Company as a high-profile, respected and well-connected dance company delivering the company’s mission and objectives; specifically developing and producing Candoco’s live programmes encompassing national and international touring, performances in traditional and non-traditional settings, and other creative projects.

This is a crucial role in the Candoco team. It is mixed and varied in its scope, with a high level of autonomy and responsibility, and a requirement to work flexibly as part of the team.

Key areas of responsibility:

Strategy

·  To identify and pursue creative and financial opportunities that derive from the company’s work including the generation of proposals for future projects

·  To support the Artistic Co-Directors in generating ideas and implementing collaborations for the company’s repertoire of world class work

·  To generate a sustainable income from the company’s repertoire of work

·  Where relevant to present projects and proposals to the Board for discussion and approval

·  Relationship development

o  To build partnerships with creative and delivery partners, lead on liaison with collaborators and negotiate on terms of relationship

o  Cultivation and maintenance of relationships with national & international venues, agencies and festivals

o  Develop more and better strategic alliances to share the costs and risks of our creative programme

o  Seek appropriate partnership development opportunities for artistic projects

o  Represent the company’s interests in the above negotiations

o  Manage, monitor and evaluate the success of the partnerships in liaison with other relevant staff

o  For identified funded projects – to manage the funder relationship

Project Management

·  Pursuit, implementation and evaluation of company’s live projects including the development and management of budgets and the identification and recruitment of project teams

·  To agree, finalise and monitor contracts with presenting partners

·  To lead on the creation of the company work schedule, in collaboration with Artistic Co-Directors, Learning Producer and Assistant Producer (Programme and Touring)

·  To support the Artistic Co-Directors in managing the relationships with creative collaborators and to support in liaising with dancers on the schedule

·  To liaise with the Production Manager for all technical requirements for the company’s artistic programme.

·  To oversee the logistics for the delivery of the company’s programme of work in liaison with Assistant Producer (Programme and Touring), Production Manager and Tour Manager

·  To work with the Learning Producer to develop associated Learning work and Audience Development plans

Touring / Projects

·  To meet income and activity targets as agreed with Executive Director

·  To deliver international and UK tour-booking and associated projects, and lead terms of negotiation

·  To manage the company’s touring schedule

·  To oversee the logistical management of successful company touring including budget management

·  To travel with the company when relevant to represent its interests with promoters and partners and to facilitate new partnerships

·  To maintain and update UK and International Promoter Promotional Packs and lead on promoting the company’s work at trade fairs and through regular promoter mail outs

Finance / HR / Governance

·  To report on all held budgets and contribute to the development of future allocations in all areas of responsibility

·  To lead on the generation of contracts for all creative collaborators and ensure they are in line with Candoco’s policies and procedures

·  Produce quarterly reports for the Board against Business Plan objectives, and attend Board meetings as suggested by the Executive Director

Line Management

·  To line manage the Production Manager and Assistant Producer (Programme and Touring) including objective setting, appraisal and identification of training needs

·  To contract and manage freelancers, in particular the Tour Manager

·  To advise the Executive Director on the appropriate staffing structure for delivering communications, project management and touring in the short and long term

Marketing & Communication

·  To work with the Communications Manager to develop the communication strategy for venue and project campaigns, digital activity and audience development

Joint Team Responsibilities

·  To abide by the joint team responsibilities as outlined in the staff handbook (e.g. H&S, environmental sustainability and equal opportunities).

Personal Specification:

Essential Skills and Attributes

·  At least five years’ paid experience in producing and/or project managing arts projects or programmes

·  Considerable knowledge of the performing arts sector in the UK

·  A commitment to the principles of inclusive ways of working and equal opportunities

·  Proven track record in producing successful projects and productions from development and implementation to evaluation, including income generation and partnership initiation

·  Experience of supporting artists and creative teams in developing and delivering projects and productions

·  Experience of negotiating and agreeing contracts with a range of partners, coupled with demonstrable confidence in leading negotiations

·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to establish rapport and excellent relationships with a wide range of individuals and organisations

·  Experience of setting, managing and monitoring budgets

·  Ability to work at a senior level, lead teams and effectively motivate others

·  Commitment to working collaboratively within a small team, including ability to delegate

·  Strong organisational skills: self-motivated; orderly and systematic; able to prioritise own workload; problem solver; able to meet deadline; an eye for detail

·  Ability to work quickly, stay calm under pressure and respond to a range of demands

·  Ability to multi-task effectively

·  Ability to represent the company in a wide range of contexts

Desirable Skills and Attributes

·  A good knowledge of the contemporary dance sector in the UK and internationally

·  Experience of tour booking and tour producing in the UK and internationally

·  Experience of working inclusively with disabled and non-disabled people

·  Established relationships with performing arts presenters in the UK and internationally

·  Experience and understanding of working with key strategic partners such as the British Council

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

This post is offered full-time (37.5 hours/week)

The salary for this post is £34,170 per annum

As an employee of Candoco Dance Company, tax and national insurance will be deducted from your salary at source.

Holiday: 25 days per annum plus bank holidays

You will have a dual work-base:

·  Candoco office, Unit 2T Leroy House, 436 Essex Road, London N1 3QP.

·  Aspire Studio, Wood Lane, Stanmore, HA7 4AP

In addition you may be required to travel to other locations where the company is working, specifically rehearsal studios and venues.

The majority of your working days will be spent in the Candoco office where normal office hours are 10am – 6pm.

This post will involve working unsocial hours and travel outside of London at times. Overtime is not payable, but time off in lieu (TOIL) will be given.
