OBJECTIVES:

1.  Describe the etiology and pathophysiology of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in youth

2.  Identify current treatment plans and tools utilized in the management of diabetes in children and adolescents and apply them to the school setting

3.  Describe factors influencing, and methods to maintain, blood glucose control during exercise and physical activity for youth with diabetes.

4.  Identify age-appropriate developmental stages and utilizing this with diabetes tasks

Target Audience: Primary Care Providers and School based nurses

Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education by the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (Connecticut Children’s).
