CASC Ontario Council 2015 Winter Communiqué

On behalf of our Council, I take this opportunity to wish you all a belated Happy 2015. We wish you all the best in this new year. Within this communiqué, you will see an update regarding CRPO, as well as an update from the work being done by the committee working on our Educational Standards, and thank you Neil for this information.

Wearing my hat as “Co-chair” of our National Convention being held this year in Southwestern Ontario, in Hamilton, from April 15 to 18, I want to share with you a few ideas we would like your assistance with at our opening celebration on April 15. More on this later.

CRPO Update

Despite not yet having a date set for proclamation, both routes (i.e. Grandparenting and the regular route) to registering with the College are now open. We would encourage those pursuing membership with the College to get their applications in, if it has not already been submitted. All applications should ideally be received, reviewed and accepted prior to proclamation, and we know from the experience of those who have already been submitted, this process takes time. The application forms can be found at: The Jurisprudence Module must be completed prior to being able to submit an application. This module can be found at:

Helpful resources, such as the CPE and PCE Consensus documents, can be found on the CASC Ontario Council’s webpage:

Please continue bringing your questions to your regional representatives on the Council.

Educational Standards Update

The purpose of the CASC-ON Education Standards Committee is to collaboratively develop a widely accepted and coherent understanding and approach for how CASC education standards intersect with standards for recognition as an education program by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). There are 3 Working Groups in the Committee called Curriculum, CRPO Recognition Requirements, and Engagement. A big debt of gratitude goes to all of the hard working CASC members who are helping shape the future of education in Ontario so that future students will be able to be fully prepared for professional practice through education programs that are accredited by CASC and recognized by CRPO. Please contact the chair, Neil Elford with any questions or suggestions you might have for the Committee.

CASC National Conference, April 15- 18, 2015

As stated above we are hosting this year’s Convention in Hamilton and our gathering will celebrate our 50th anniversary as an organization making it even more important to attend. To make this an inclusive event my co-chair, Donna Hollands Hurst and I call on your assistance.

For those of you who had the good fortune to attend the conference in Winnipeg last year, you will remember that we invited all members present at the closing banquet to assist us in promoting attendance in Hamilton, for which we are very grateful. At our opening celebration we are asking your assistance again. At the opening ceremony in the evening of April 15th, we invite those in attendance to mingle with our members from across Canada so that when we officially welcome everyone our whole province will be welcoming all to this special anniversary event.

I look forward to seeing many of you there in April.

Ciaran Mc Kenna,

Chair, CASC Ontario Council.
