Basic Airwork
Objective:
To develop the student's technique and confidence in basic control of the aircraft.
Elements:
1. Effect and use of flight controls.
2. Outside and instrument references used for pitch, bank, and power control; the cross-check and interpretation of those references; and the control technique used.
3. Trim technique.
4. Visual scanning and collision avoidance
5. Methods that can be used to overcome tenseness and overcontrolling.
6. Straight-and-level, climbs, descents, turns, and combinations.

Common Errors:
1. Failure to cross-check and correctly interpret outside and instrument references.
2. Application of control movements rather than pressures.
3. Uncoordinated use of flight controls.
4. Faulty trim technique.
5. Failure to scan for traffic.
6. Failure to clear engine and use carburetor heat, as appropriate.
