Slide 3 - Oracle Product Master Data Management Cloud Release 11

Slide notes

Hello, my name is Dave. Welcome to training for Release 11. In this session we will talk what is new in Oracle Fusion Product Hub Search Enhancements.

Slide 4 - Agenda

Slide notes

For the Search enhancements covered in this training, we’ll give an overview, followed by more detailed explanation as to how you can use them, and what business value they bring in. Then, we’ll walk you through a demonstration. Following that, we’ll highlight what you need to consider before enabling these features in your business, and what you need to know for setting them up.

Slide 5 - Enhancements Overview

Slide notes

Prior to Release 11, you could search for an item using keywords such as Printer. However, the search was performed within Item Number, Item Description, Long Description, and Item Class, which are commonly searched item attributes. For example, if you wanted to search for a Wireless Laser Printer with duplex capability as criteria, then, for a successful search, all the keywords had to exist in the set of the attributes I have mentioned just now.

In Release 11, with this Flexible Keyword Search for Items functionality, you will be able to configure the searchable list of attributes to include additional relevant attributes to align closely with your daily search needs. In the regional search area of items, you could perform targeted searches by guiding the search engine to look for keywords in a narrow set of applicable attributes.

Slide 6 - Flexible Keyword Search for Items

Slide notes

In Release 11, a new setup task has been added to allow you to designate your own list of item attributes as searchable. You can designate any of the operational attributes or custom attributes you have created using Item Extensible Flexfield functionality as searchable. Item Relationship and Trading Partner Relationship attributes can be made searchable as well.

Notes

Slide 7 - Flexible Keyword Search for Items

Slide notes

Here are some of the examples of the keyword search executed from the regional search area using the Flexible Keyword Search for Items functionality:

• A search for keyword ‘Printer’ within Item Class attribute returns all items within the Item Class Printer

• A search for keyword ‘Laser’ within Description attribute returns all items with Laser in the Item Description

• Finally, a search for keyword ‘Wireless’ in Connectivity attribute returns all items that have ‘Wireless’ as value in Connectivity which is an EFF attribute .

By interconnecting all the three search criteria using Oracle Text Search logical operators, you can easily look for Wireless Laser Printers.

Please note that Oracle Text Search continues to be supported.

Notes

Slide 8 - Flexible Keyword Search for Items

Slide notes

By default, Oracle Fusion Product Hub application provides a standard set of attributes within which Items can be searched for matching key words. This enhancement enables users to guide the search engine to look in a custom list of searchable attributes instead of the default set of attributes. Such targeted searches boost user productivity by returning a narrower set of data, helping you quickly spot the items of your interest. Your ability to guide the search engine where to look for what, is designed to improve your search experience.

Notes

Slide 27 - Summary of Enhancement Capabilities

Slide notes

Here is the summary of the features I have talked about today. You can configure your list of searchable attributes by designating item attributes of your choice as searchable. Then you can perform targeted searches within your custom list of searchable attributes. You can also fine tune your searches by employing Oracle Text Search operators.

Notes

Slide 28 - Additional Information

Slide notes

For keyword searches to yield results quickly, the system maintains a data index based on the searchable attribute list. This data index is automatically updated in real-time when users change item data. However, you can also change the list of searchable attributes itself by adding/dropping attributes of your interest. For such configuration changes, the system automatically rebuilds the index. In most cases, index rebuilding is completed in near real-time except when there is a significantly large number of items maintained in Oracle Product Hub. Even when the index rebuilding is in progress, users can continue to perform searches. During such time, the search engine will return results based on the list of searchable attributes prior to the change. The search engine will automatically switch the modified list of searchable attributes when the rebuild is completed.

Flexible Keyword Search for Items is a feature that is automatically available after the upgrade to Release 11. I will point out the job roles available for accessing this feature and the setup steps shortly.

Notes

Slide 31 - Setup Summary

Slide notes

The setup for keyword search is achieved by performing the necessary setup using the Functional Setup Manager. The task, ‘Manage Item Keyword Search Attributes,’ is used to select objects and attributes that can be used for keyword search.

Notes

Slide 32 - Flexible Keyword Search for Items- Setup Detail

Slide notes

The setup allows users to select Item attributes to define their list of searchable attributes. Because Items have a large collection of attributes, for ease of filtering, the attributes have been grouped by Item children objects.
