Course Overview: The first section of this course will present various clinical disorders about or related to the field of neurology. There will be several major topic areas to include: Infectious Disorders, Trauma & Coma, Cerebrovascular Disorders, Toxic & Metabolic Encephalopathy, Epilepsy, and Degenerative Disorders, Psychology/Psychiatry, Tumors, Headache, and Neonatal Abnormalities. The second section of the course will explore the relationship of neurodiagnostic technology to various other medical specialties such as Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pathology, Radiology, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, and the various diagnostic procedures within these areas. In addition, topics such as supplies, professional societies, and board exams will be discussed.
Course Assignments:
1. Four reports will be assigned in the areas of Epilepsy, Diagnostic testing, and Neurological disorders (2). The reports will be presented orally and in type written form. Points possible: 25 each (100)
2. Attendance & participation - 50 points possible (50)
3. Final Exam - 200 points (200).

Students are expected to be familiar with the OCC policies listed in the college catalog (2013/2014). Expectations for student conduct and academic honesty will be followed. Specific to this class, is the expectation that all students do their own work in both written assignments and exams.

F 0 - 226 0-64%
*Exams must be taken on the scheduled date. Make-up exams are accepted within one week but the points possible will be deducted by 20%. No make-up exams will be accepted after one week.

Students will be able to:
Recognize the clinical signs and electroencephalographic correlations with vascular disorders, space occupying lesions, infective disorders, toxic, metabolic, and degenerative disorders and major psychiatric disorders of the brain.

The written reports are expected to be typed and the grammar, spelling, and content will be considered. Reports will be graded on content 50%, oral summary 10%, writing quality 20%, references cited 10%, and ability to communicate relevant personal comments 10%.
