BACKGROUND

Founded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Florida State University Chapter of the FGLSAMP program is part of a nationwide alliance that began in the fall of 1992. The program’s goal is to facilitate the entry of FGLSAMP Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) majors into graduate programs while increasing the production of minority graduates in the STEM areas. These goals are met through:

·  RECRUITMENT

o  Visits to graduate institutions

o  Conferences/Workshops

·  PROGRESSION

o  FGLSAMP Mentoring Program

o  Monthly Workshops/Meetings

o  Internships/Research Opportunities

·  GRADUATION

o  Assist students in getting accepted at top-notch graduate institutions

o  Assist students with obtaining full-time employment opportunities

WHAT DOES FGLSAMP PROVIDE YOU?

·  STIPEND

o  Based on cumulative GPA, participation, and other criteria

o  Freshman and sophomores receive up to $500

o  Juniors and seniors receive up to $1,000

o  Received at the end of the academic year (end of spring semester)

·  SEMINARS/CONFERENCES

o  FGLSAMP Regional/National Conferences

o  FGLSAMP @FSU Professional Seminars

FGLSAMP PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

·  GPA: 3.0 or greater

·  SAT: Minimum score of 1000

·  ACT: Minimum score of 21

·  Must be an active student matriculating in one of the following areas:

o  Biology

o  Physics

o  Chemistry

o  Mathematics

o  Computer Science/Computer Information Systems

o  Environmental Sciences

o  Engineering--Industrial, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical

·  Must be planning to attend graduate school for research (not a professional school, such as for Medicine, Dentistry, etc.)
