Oliver Twist

The story is about an orphan, Oliver Twist. He lives in an orphanage until he is 9, then works hard in a workhouse. Boys are starving there and sent O. to asks for some more soup. He is punished and then is placed with an undertaker. He gets little food and comfort.

He escapes and travels to London where he meets the Artful Dodger, leader of a gang of young pickpockets (thieves). Their trainer is a criminal Fagin, They tell him they “make wallets and handkerchiefs”.

He doesn´t know they steal and one day he goes to help Dodger and his friend Charlie to “make handkerchiefs”. These two boys steal a handkerchief from Mr. Brownlow and flee. Oliver stays there shocked, is caught and taken to the court.

One witness, a bookshop holder, claims Oliver is innocent not guilty. Mr. Brownlow takes Oliver home and cares for him. Oliver is very happy there. Mr. B. trusts him so much that he gives him some money and sends him to pay some books.

Unfortunately Fagin´s fellows Nancy and Bill catch him and bring him back to Fagin because they don´t want Oliver to speak to Mr. B about their criminal gang. Nancy feels ashamed later and wants to help Oliver. She meets Mr. B and tells him about Oliver.

Bill discovers her secret, calls her traitor, gets angry and kills her. In the end Bill accidentally hangs himself when he tries to flee across a rooftop. Oliver is saved and lives happily at Mr. B´s place.
