Call for Instructors Application

The Gary Comer Youth Center (GCYC) is looking for dynamic individuals or organizations to provide programs for our members in the afternoon or evening during the week as well as throughout the day on Saturdays for the fall 2015 semester. Gary Comer Youth Center

Having opened its doors in June 2006, the state-of-the-art Gary Comer Youth Center (GCYC) offerspositive extracurricular alternatives in a welcoming and safe environment. The mission is to provide the support for all members to graduate from high school, prepared to pursue college and careers. Located on Chicago’s South Side, the Gary Comer Youth Center draws its primary membership from the youth of Gary Comer College Prep and Middle School,the South Shore Drill Team, Paul Revere School, as well as youth residing within the broader Southside community.

Program Openings

GCYC has instructor openings for the following programs. Spring programs can operate for 14-20 weeks starting in January 2017unless otherwise indicated:

  • Choir (an instructor who plays the piano is preferred; otherwise can apply with an accompanist)
  • 90 minute offering twice a week after school
  • Dance Club: middle school and high school clubs (various forms of dance are applicable)
  • 90 minute and 60 minute offerings on Friday afternoons
  • Poetry Club: middle school and high school clubs
  • 90 minute and 60 minute offerings on Friday afternoons and Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays from 6:00pm-7:30pm

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Designs and implements quality programming for youth.
  • Maintains program visuals including flyers and bulletin boards.
  • Responsible for all administrative duties related to implementing the corresponding program.
  • Maintains program equipment, supplies as well as program areas under guidance of the Program Director.
  • Attends all required meetings and trainings.
  • Required to develop program plan/curriculum; complete program evaluations all necessary reporting.
  • Assist in the organization and implementation of program related special activities/events.
  • Supports the mission of GCYC.
  • Works collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth.
  • Is committed to the safety and development of all GCYC members.
  • Abides by the established GCYC policies and procedures.
