INTRODUCTION

United Global Organization of Development-UGOOD is a Non-Profit, Non-Political and Non-Government organization, duly registered with the Government of Pakistan under Trust Act 1882 in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). The organization was registered on June 3rd, 2003 with the ambition to strive for the sustainable human developments by working in the areas of Health, Education, Environment, Natural Resource Management-NRM, Community Physical Infrastructure-CPI,Poverty Alleviation, Women Economic Empowerment-WEE,Youth Development Programs-YDP and Rehabilitation of disabled, poor and destitute.

UGOOD is an independent NGO working towards building a nation in which peoples, cultures, races, religions, and nationalities could live together in peace, harmony, mutual respect, cooperation, and prosperity.

While working for the betterment of human beings at all levels, UGOOD has also taken various initiatives to develop cooperation and linkage between various Social Sectors and Community Organizations in the undeveloped and neglected areas of Pakistan so that the organizations belonging to these areas may be given a voice to raise the particular issues of their specific areas.By optimizing resources and sharing vital information, UGOOD provides a means for CSOs/NGOs to become more effective in completing their vital tasks.

The UGOOD has been awarded with “Tax Exemption Certificate” by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) – Government of Pakistan.

BACKGROUND

Poverty, illiteracy, lack of proper healthcare facilities, gender discrimination & unemployment are the main hindrance to economic empowerment of Pakistan and are cause of social instability. Realizing this fact, United Global Organization of Development (UGOOD) was formed by a group of socially responsible young and intellectual individuals, who wanted to bring a positive change in the lives of the 42 Million population of Pakistan who is living below the poverty line. Having head office at Islamabad, UGOOD through its affiliates has presence in all the major cities of Pakistan and in the other countries as well. The dedicated members of UGOOD have distinguished academic, social and professional backgrounds and are highly motivated to work at their best capacity for the development of the country.

MISSION

The mission of UGOOD is to strive for the sustainable socialdevelopment of unprivileged and disadvantaged communities by improving their access to better education, health, skill development & employment opportunities and to work for the relief and rehabilitation of vulnerable people particularly during natural or human caused disasters.

VISION

To bring a positive social change by enhancing skills and developing innovative model approaches for the uplift of the unprivileged communities with a particular focus on youth and women development.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. Increasing Social Mobilization by the way of participation for skills enhancement, Poverty Alleviation, Health, Environment, Community Physical Infrastructure, Human Rights, Women Economic Empowerment and Youth Development Programs.
  2. To create awareness among communities especially among Youth regarding the prevention of HIV/Aids, TB, Malaria and Hepatitis through Media, trainings, workshops, seminars, Forums and other informal means.
  3. Provide a forum to the youngsters to discuss and resolve the issues and problems & conflict resolution.
  4. Plan and executive the positive recreational and sports activities for the youngsters.
  5. Create awareness among the youngsters against social evils like, drug addiction, begging.
  6. Election Monitoring, Awareness and motivation Campaigns to mobilize voters especially women to participate in the electoral process to strengthen the Democratic process in Pakistan and to advocate and pressure building for state institutes and political parties to comply with the code of conduct for Election.
  7. Help and assist unprivileged communities, especially rural, in arranging formal and non-formal education for adults, children and women.
  8. To work for improving access to health facilities for poor by organizing medical camps, awareness campaigns relating to prominent health issues and establishing primary health care centers and hospitals in un developed areas.
  9. To undertake programs relating to women economic empowerment including establishment of Women Vocational Training Centers and Industrial Homes for providing opportunities to rural women to earn extra income through skill development.
  10. Establish liaison of stake-holders with leading National Research Organizations for the transfer of proven farm technologies.
  11. Work on the fine-tuning and development of human resources through skill enhancement, trainings, demonstrations and tested interventions to increase individual’s level of income and to secure prosperous future.
  12. Organize men and women into formal self-help organizations; Community Based

Organizations-CBOs to identify and solve their problems at grass-root level on Self-Help Basis especially the problems relating to human rights, women rights, children rights and Youth.

  1. Establishment of Micro-credit Fund to help stake-holders to initiate Micro-Enterprise activities at village/grassroots’ level.
  2. To establish partnerships and strategic alliances with national and international Civil Societies/CBOs/CCBs and Civic Societies that shares our Values and Goals.
  3. To design and execute programs for emergency disaster relief and rehabilitation in case of natural or human calamity.
PHILOSOPHY AND METHOD OF WORK
UGOOD works on “GOLDEN PRINCIPLE OF SELF HELP” and number of program activities are carried out and implemented through male and female volunteers. UGOOD encourages the self-help potential of rural and urban communities through the establishment of social organizations (CBOs), which support them in the formation of viable local institutions. Donors, Philanthropist and individuals concerned with the development and betterment of society, especially education and skill development, help to run various program and activities.

UGOOD at present operates all over in Pakistan through its affiliated and associated local Partners. Currently UGOOD has more than 215 CBOs and around 250 registered NGOs from all over in Pakistan including Kashmir, NWFP, Fata, Fana and Gilgit Baltistan.

The support, which UGOOD offers to communities, concentrates on the promotion and management of Education, Health, Environment, Women Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation through our partnersand self help approach.

UGOOD is looking forward for new partners/donors to help and assist it in expanding and further strengthening its program activities. This includes strengthening and introducing the program to new areas and villages, adding more features to increase its impact in rural and urban communities for Poverty Alleviation.

ACHIEVEMENTS
  1. A Vocational training center has been established with a Joint venture of UGOOD and Ministry of Women Development-Government of Pakistan, in the remotest rural area of Sialkot District at village Gondal, for the poor unprivileged rural women to provide them various skills to earn extra income for their financial stability.
  2. More than 50,000 men, women and children were helped at a total cost of Rs. 32,188,800/- in earthquake hit areas in Azad Kashmir and NWFP.
  3. Four tent villages have been established in Azad Kashmir and one in H-11, Islamabad.UGOOD Two tent cities were established in Bagh, one at Union Council Salian and another one in Dhirkot. UGOOD Tent Cities rehabilitated more than 10,000 house-holds.
  4. More than 1000 male and female members of rural communities in ten villages have been organized into 19 CBOs and they have been provided with the platform where they discuss and develop strategies to solve their problems on self-help bases.
  5. By cooperating with another NGO, Foundation for the Advancement of community Education and Empowerment –FACE (working in the field of Education), A Kinder Garden has been established in the remotest area of Faisalabad Division at Chak No. 53/3, Tukra Darbar Peer Salah ud Din, nearMamunkanjan, Tehsil Tandianwala, for the poor students whose parents cannot afford theireducational expenses due to lack of financial resources.
  6. 5 Free dispensaries have been established in Rawalpindi, Sialkot & Bagh, Muzafarabad and Rawlakot, AJK to help the poor people avail the free medical facility in their areas.
  7. UGOOD supported and facilitated, Mabarak Bin Mohammad Al-Nahayan Trust, in establishing an institute for the deserving children of the earthquake affected area of AJK and NWFP.
  8. UGOOD in collaboration with overseas companies arranged Overseas Employment for 88 males from earthquake effected area of AJK and NWFP in Sharjah and Gulf on September 19, 2006.UGOOD further plans to send around 300 earthquakes affected for overseas employment.
  9. UGOOD supported 135 families of Bagh, Muzaffarabad and Rawlakot/Poonch by providing them financial assistance to establish small business like candle making, groceries stores and fruit shops etc.
  10. UGOOD research and development sections have been established to advance development and alleviate poverty.
  11. UGOOD in collaboration with Universal Peace Federation-USA and World Association of NGOs-USA invited around 400 people from different countries who belonged to different religions and casts on a Universal Peace Symposium in Islamabad-Pakistan. The purpose was to remove differences among the people of different religions and casts and to promote the message of peace and live together in peace, harmony, mutual respect, cooperation, and universal prosperity.Mr. Gilani was awarded “PEACE EMBASSADOR” for Pakistan at Universal Peace Symposium by UPS-USA and IIWFP-USA.
  12. UGOOD established a “UGOOD YOUTH WING”that is aimed to promote various healthy activities among the youngsters. A cricket tournament and other sport activities were organized under this wing in Sialkot and Islamabad.
  13. UGOOD Election Monitoring, Awareness and motivation Campaigns to mobilizevoters especially women to participate in the electoral process to strengthen the Democratic process in Pakistan and to advocate and pressure building for state institutes and political parties to comply with the code of conduct for Election.
  14. Established a “NWFP Consortium for Peace & Development (NWFP-CPD)” with selected 52 registered NGOs from all the district of NWFP and Tribal Areas.
  15. Currently working on to establish “All Pakistan NGOs Association-APNA” Forum. There are more than 120 registered NGOs from all over the Pakistan has been registered with UGOOD.
  16. Execution of Volunteers for Social Change-V4SC Program.

HONORS AND AWARDS

1.UGOOD Chief Executive, Mr. Syed Ishtiaq Ul Hassan Gilani was awarded with Quaid-e-Azam “GOLD MEDAL” and certificate on 23rd March 2007 for highest achievement and provision of relief to Earth quake affected in Kashmir and NWFP.
2.UGOOD awarded Shield and Certificate from CDA (Capital Development Authority) at Conventional Centre Islamabad, for collaborating and working with CDA as a partner and fully sponsored E-Block for almost eight month to Earthquake affected of Kashmir and NWFP.
3.Mr. Gilani also awarded “PEACE EMBASSADOR FOR PAKISTAN” at Universal Peace Symposium in Marriot Hotel, Islamabad by Universal Peace Federation (UPS)-USA and Interreligious and International Foundation for World Peace (IIWFP)-USA.
  1. UGOOD’s coordinator Ms. Sumreen Kazmi and Mr. Gilani, CEO of UGOOD have received the Medal and Souvenir from the Sweden Delegate in Islamabad for UGOOD’s Earthquake Rescue Operation-ERO in Kashmir and NWFP-Pakistan.
  2. Mr. Gilani was awarded the “YOUTH AWARD” in India by theMaj. Gen. Surat Sandhu, Chairman of South Asian Fund Raising Group (SAFRG)-Indiaat Jaypee Palace Hotel, Agra.
  3. Mr. Gilani was also awarded the “Certificate of Appreciation” froma Group of Youth at Jaypee Palace Hotel, Agra-India.
  4. “TAMGHA-E-EESAAR AWARD” (The Medal of Generosity/Sacrifice) to UGOOD Executive Member by President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan General Pervaiz Musharaf in recognition of services rendered during the Disaster Relief Operation-DRO on October 8, 2005.
  5. “EARTH QUAKE RELIEF AWARD” conferred by President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan General Pervaiz Musharaf to UGOOD’s Member, for his Extraordinary Services during the UGOOD’s Earthquake Rescue Operation-ERO and providing relief to Earthquake Affected in Kashmir.
  6. “Salam Pakistan Youth Award 2006” conferred by President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan General Pervaiz Musharaf to UGOOD’s Volunteer for his outstanding performance during the UGOOD’s Earthquake Rescue Operation-ERO.
FUTURE GOALS- 2010-2011
  1. Increasing present number of CBOs from 215 to 500 in year 2010-2011, to cooperate with 500,000males and females of the rural areas of Pakistan and Kashmir.
  2. Establishment of 5 more Vocational Training Centers for rural women in 2010 to 2011.
  3. Establishing 5 Mother and Child Health Units for poor patients and linking them with medical institutions of thecountry involved in the treatment of serious disease like cancer, heart problem etc, and providing medication on free or subsidized basis.
  4. Launching various programs in the fields of NRM to increase farm income and train farmers in the adaptation of pre-tested farm technologies.
  5. Develop Human Resource of the stakeholders of sister Organizations and their staff membersthrough trainings, engaged in the process of development.
  6. Further expanding and strengthening ‘Micro-Credit & Enterprise Development’ program for stake-holders.
  7. To associate with UGOOD at least 1000 NGOs from through out the country for their capacity building through training and workshops in 2010 to 2011.
  8. Provision of permanent shelter homes for 100 neglected families in areas, severely damaged by earth quake and Balochistan.
  9. Provision of specialized trainings to communities to build earthquake-resistant & disables friendly houses in Azad Kashmir.
  10. Arrange quality education for 3000 students in Pakistan and Kashmir.
  11. Organize 50 medical camps for poor patients especially for Women in Rural areas.
  12. Provision of 1000 wheel chairs to disables & 500 sewing machine to Widows
  13. Provide financial support to 1000 widows and helpless family heads.
  14. Continuation of rehabilitation and relief work in earthquake hit areas in Azad Kashmir, NWFP and Balochistan.
  15. Infrastructure Development and Up gradation of District Lakki Marwat, NWFP and District Siakot, Punjab.
  16. Continuation of developing cooperation, restructuring, collaboration and coordination with Social Sectors and Community Organizations from all over the Pakistan and Kashmir and build their capacity through seminars, workshops, forums and trainings.
  17.
