Travel Speech Requirements

·  You will select a country and create a virtual tour about that country to present to the class.

·  You may use PowerPoint, Prezi, or any other compatible presentation software. Your presentation should follow the basic guidelines specified on the attached handout “Tips for Effective PowerPoint Presentations”

·  You will be graded on your verbal (no grammar, articulation, pronunciation, or enunciation errors; no vocalized pauses) and non-verbal (appearance, eye contact, posture, gestures, facial expressions) delivery skills.

·  There is no time requirement for this speech; instead, you must include each aspect listed below. Your presentation must include:

§  Map location, famous landmarks, cities of importance (including the capital), elevations, climate

§  Flag (meaning of colors, coat of arms, etc.)

§  Demographics: population; racial breakdown (pie chart)

§  Economy: main industry; average income; class structure

§  Government

§  Religion

§  History

§  Language (including local slang and popular names)

§  Currency (if not US dollar, include the conversion rate)

§  Cuisine: breakfast; lunch; dinner; snacks; drinks

§  Holidays

§  Education

§  Sports

·  You must print a handout (3 slides per page) of your presentation and submit it the first day of presentations or your speech will be considered late.

·  The travel speech is worth 130 points. See attached grading sheet for specifics.
