NATIONAL HYDROLOGICAL WORKSHOP

The National Hydrological Workshop has been planned to be held at the Kenya Wildlife Services(KWS ) Institute, Naivasha from 29th to 30th May 2006. Transport will be available from Maji House at 1.00 P.M. on 28th May 2006.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together the fraternity of hydrologists from the various institutions of the water sector. The workshop will provide a forum at which to reflect on the progress of the profession and project on the future in view of the reformed water sector.

During the workshop, hydrologists from academia, government and other institutions will be invited to present scientific papers in their areas of interest in hydrology. The workshop will underscore the primary mission of hydrology to generate organized knowledge for use in solving water resources problems

Those intending to present papers should send abstracts of not more than 200 words to E-mail address by 20th May 2006 or notify the coordinators. Names of nominees should be sent to the coordinators to reach them by the same date.

The theme of the workshop is “Hydrology and Integrated Water Resources Management for Sustainable Economic Development in Kenya”. The sub-themes to be discussed include, but will not be limited to the following:

1.  Hydrology of extremes and impacts on socio-economy.

2.  Hydrological data uncertainties and modeling of ungauged catchments. Impacts on development.

3.  Development of appropriate tools for hydrological data processing (Models, GIS, Remote Sensing).

4.  Eco-hydrology and sustainable development.

5.  Hydrology in Water Resources Conservation.

6.  Transboundary water issues.

7.  Hydrology and water quality.

8.  Hydrology in socio-economic development.

9.  Anatomy of conflicts on water resources.
