Minutes/Conclusions Reached
· Welcome
· Healthiest Work Group Stars
· Tutorial Grids
Action: Mary Ann to send May 2016 Tutorial Grid to the Education List
· Artdecor tutorial being considered. Melva thought Canada would benefit. It was brought up that Trifolia tool would also be useful in a tutorial. Prior decision was that should be done as Bird of a Feather.
· Mark said that Kai has CDA tools tutorial?
· Could tools tutorial be useful to implementers? Abdul-Malik said that especially ones that are freely available and has sponsor recommendation.
· Will discuss further in Education WG Quarters
· Tutorial Requirements
· Review and update specifications
· Heather has Sunday advanced class/workshop
· Implementers Certification Project Update (Austin)
· Survey to come out
· About a third of the attendees have heard of the project
· Approved by board about 2 months ago
· Professional certification on par with other certifications. Useful as criteria for hiring. Example PMP, CPHIMS
· Board funded market survey to verify that we have a market for it. Will be coming out in early February. Want participation as broad as possible.
· Ted - Not a broad overlap of implementations for different categories. What kind of people would get such a certification in being general? Not saying it wouldn’t be useful. Virginia noted that application could allow for variance. Austin said why survey would be useful.
· Virginia – introduced concept of legally defensible tests and certification of knowledge.
· Discussion of Cancelled Tutorials at this WGM
· 6 tutorials cancelled at this WGM
· Discussion of reasons – lack of funding; stage of MU, etc
· Melva said many are MU – is that why?
· Standards for Meaningful Use – Gora discussing (it was his tutorial and cancelled). Gora has a student that wanted to take the class last minute. Could we postpone cancelling to the last minute. Mary Ann said that we kept ones as small as 3 and 4. Gora said is it because of the write up? Gora wants to improve his blurb.
· General reduction in tutorials overall including FHIR. Ted - Maybe we are experiencing an environmental change.
· Harry, lady from Optum – can’t afford to send. Need it right away. Harry – most who have done MU training are done for now.
· Kai – HL7 is cannibalizing product lines (ted’s language) by having FHIR and CDA/V2 competing with each other – also having webinars competing with inperson.
· Webinar with live class – packed room plus remote (Ted and Calvin)
· Calvin watching finances. Always been a positive spot. But paradigm shift. Online is doing better. Worthy of more exploration. MaryAnn said it is general/not tutorial specific.
· Potential marketing issue – MaryAnn says that people who attended ED Summit found it using google. Some even were HL7 members even benefactors.
· FHIR education needs to be changed to include seasoned people.
· John suggested that webpage remember who searches and gives new people examples.
· Woody – idea of video to no audience.
· Gora – education methods are siloed and we should think through this more strategically. The Education Portal. We should have a book
· MaryAnn said Sharon wants tutorials – send ideas.
· People don’t know what to take – multiple instances. Exercises.
· Keith finds the portal challenging to navigate. Melva encouraged him to send ideas to improve.
· Ideas for new Tutorials
· Ideas for Webinars
· Other Agenda Items
· Other types of Tutorials

· Healthiest Work Group Stars
· Planning for September 2016 WGM tutorials
· Day/Time/Frequency of Education WG Teleconference
· Education WG Transformation - Status
· Kai’s tutorial proposal
· Previously turned down a tutorial on Trifolia.
· Kai expressed that HL7 has killed V3 because they don’t offer tooling.
· Helps audience having tooling tutorials.
· Kai wants to teach Art-decor – open source – maintained by artdecor open source group. Trifolia is free to use by Lantana.
· Artdecor -- Would want to include it in Templates tutorial. It is used in the rest of the world.
Action: Sharon will talk to Mark about the Art-Décor tutorial. Melva thought it would be good in Canada. Sharon will mention idea of multiple tools.
· Sharon wants more use-case webinars. Suggested that use case using artdecor. Virginia said one that shows use of Trifolia.
· Kai – cannibalizing training – CDA versus FHIR.
· UML modeling tutorial – J.D Baker.
· Teaches this. (Norman Daust teaches it as well).
· J. Baker is willing to do this free also – most common diagrams used in UML and examples from HL7. From Sparx.
· Would be willing to offer for free and would like it offered to students for free.
· Sharon said that Norman did the webinar in 2014 –
Action: asked J Baker to look over existing one.
· Ginny suggested a webinar series on HL7 processes/expertise
· Transformation Discussion
· Education high profile in strategic plan – WG seems to hold up its progress.
· Updates to exams should not have to have a project scope statement to get things done.
· FHIR Institute – Chuck announced it at a Monday session and it happened in two weeks. Education knew nothing about it. FHIR online course in two weeks. Skipped HL7 process.
· Sharon – Recommends - Staff can’t do anything without the members but staff can lead the initiatives and provide the structure.
· Sharon - Need a model of how decisions will be made WG or committee.
· Fernando – marketing? But doesn’t exist. No examples of committee processes.
· Timeframe for meetings for committee – just the forum – most useful part. However, Virginia concerned about how that is little time for input. Virginia concerned about lack of input and process from volunteers on education direction in new proposal. Should have a feeling of fairness via open stakeholder participation but not the slowness of standards development. Example – V2 Implementers Workshop should be recommended and advised on by Ed “group” but executed by Ed staff. Virginia concerned that there are things that are not being done that should be done by process and by a volunteer group (example, reviewing the portal)
