Barilla Pasta Chef Competition 2014 Entry Details

Barilla, Italy’s leading pasta brand is teaming up yet again with the DITs School of Culinary Arts to host the 2014Barilla Pasta Chef Competition in association with Stafford Lynch Food Services Division. This is an ideal opportunity for our student’s to showcase their talent, love of food, creativity and innovation in front of a world class panel of leading food professionals, to include an Executive Chef from Academia Barilla, the renowned Italian Food Academy.

Students entering this competition will create two portions of both a starter dish and two portions of a main course dish, using a minimum of 2 Barilla Pasta Products listed below*. Each entry will be evaluated on its creativity, as well as the innovative use of theselected Barilla products. A total of 16 participants will then be selected from these entries to attend a Barilla Workshop on Friday the 21st of February, 2014.

Following on from the workshop, 6 student finalists (and 2 alternates) will be awarded the opportunityto compete; and eventually be judged on their level of workmanship, composition & presentation skills, and taste of their presented starter and main course dishes on the day of the competition final which will be held on Friday 28th of March, 2014.

All entries are to be completed using the ‘Pasta Chef Competition Entry Form’ (attached) and returned via email attachment to Chef’s James Rock and Frank Jacoby. ,

The closing date for submitted applications will be Friday the 17th of January 2014.

Selected finalists will be competing in the Cathal Brugha Street building with this year’s 1st prize winner receivingan all-expense paid trip to Parma, Italy.

The outline for the competition will be as follows:

Time - 1 hour and 30 minutes

Dishes – 2 portions each of a Starter and Main Course Dish

Product – Barilla Pasta (list to be furnished)

Theme – Creativity and Innovation

Basic Mise en Place allowed e.g. stocks, peeled vegetables, prepared meats, and garnishes.
