A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of James E. Staples.
WHEREAS, James E. Staples, a native son of Barren County, was born June 15, 1937, to the late Roger Earl and Celeste Ellis Staples, and departed from this life on December 28, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Staples was a patriotic American and honorably served his country in the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, in 1974, Mr. Staples moved his family to Versailles and assisted with the construction of the FMC factory in Lexington. He then began a career in banking and was employed by Farmers Capital Bank Corporation in Frankfort, where he served as Director of Human Resources until his retirement in 1999. He also served on the Board of Directors of the United Bank and Trust Company in Versailles and was a faculty member for the Kentucky Bank Management Institute and the American Institute of Banking National Operations at the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Staples was also a devoted member of the Board of the Kentucky Business Leadership Network and tirelessly worked to obtain funding for the organization's many endeavors to assist older employees and individuals with disabilities seeking employment; and
WHEREAS, James Staples loved Woodford County and devoted countless hours in service to its betterment. He served three terms as a Woodford County magistrate and was instrumental in raising funds for the Woodford County Senior Citizens' Building; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his innumerable contributions to Woodford County and the surrounding area, Mr. Staples was presented with a United States flag which had flown over the Commonwealth's Capitol; and
WHEREAS, James Staples was a devout Christian and worshipped and witnessed for God at Southside Church of Christ in Lexington. He was grateful for the many blessings in his own life and selflessly gave his time and talents to help others; and
WHEREAS, Versailles has lost a cherished and honorable citizen who spent over three decades in service to the area. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Donnie Staples; two sons, Jay Staples and his wife Jama, and G. Scott Staples; three grandchildren, Taylor, Jes, and Ryan Scott Staples; two step-grandchildren, Kevin and Matt Stiles; a half brother, Eugene Staples; countless cherished friends; and an entire community of individuals who greatly admired and respected him. Mr. Staples will be greatly missed, but his many good deeds will continue to positively impact the lives of others for years to come, and he will be remembered with love and gratitude;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The House of Representatives expresses its deepest sympathy upon the passing of James E. Staples and extends its heartfelt condolences to his beloved family members, his many friends, and the Woodford County community.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of James E. Staples.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Donnie Staples, 137 Bayberry Road, Versailles, Kentucky 40833.
