REPORTS

President

  • Indoor pool will be shutting down November 23 – December 20 for maintenance. The outdoor pool will be outfitted with a cover and will be used instead. Rental fees are more expensive, therefore summer schedule of Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday/Sunday will be adopted during that time.
  • The pool will be open during the Olympics. It is advised, however, that public transit be used rather than driving, as traffic will be affected.

Vice President

In Jane’s absence, Dale will present her report.

  • Waiting list is currently 55 people with average wait of 6 months.

Registrar

  • Registration through MSABC is progressing. There are currently 109 members registered with a few more to be added.

Treasurer

  • Registration income was less than projected this year, leaving us $1700 in the red. As there was a surplus in the previous years, this is not a huge concern. $8000 total in savings account.
  • GIC has enough for 3 months of operational funds as contingency.
  • Pool rental fees remained the same for next year.

Secretary

  • No news.

Coaches – Dale

  • Two new coaches were hired after some difficulty. Effort will be made to have 2 coaches present for every workout.
  • Stroke clinics and test sets will hopefully be scheduled, but 3 coaches are needed to be on deck for that to happen.

OLD BUSINESS

Hosting Provincial/National Meets

  • We will not be hosting either meet in 2010; Nanaimo won the bid to host the Nationals, and EnglishBay won the bid to host the Provincials.
Closed

Riley Park/Percy Norman Pool

  • A new pool has been constructed at Riley Park Community Centre (Percy Norman). It will be open to the public after the Olympics.
  • The City plans on setting up a committee/work group to decide how best to allocate time to the public and to rental groups. Jane hopes to be on this committee, which will hopefully give us the opportunity to establish some workout times at the new pool.
Ongoing

NEW BUSINESS

Stroke Clinics

  • Ivan Szasz has organized backstroke and butterfly clinics with Janice Hanan. Hopefully another breaststroke clinic with Josef Nagy will be conducted in December. Ivan is hoping to organize more clinics in the new year.
Closed

Aquatic Centre Maintenance Concerns

  • The level of maintenance at the Aquatic Centre has fallen considerably to the point of angering many clubs that rent the pool. Through the years concerns about the maintenance of the facility has been brought up to the Aquatic Centre’s management numerous times but have all been ignored.
  • It is suggested that rather than submitting one letter by the club to the management, numerous letters should be written by members of the club. A draft template of the letter outlining our concerns will be developed between Dale and Liz Cheu.
  • If the Aquatic Centre does not improve their maintenance, it will become necessary for the club to move some/all of the workouts to another facility.
Ongoing

Door Prizes

Stephanie Wright, our Social Coordinator, requests donations to be raffled off as door prizes at the swim meet.
