Hearing loop users instructions
HolmerGreenVillage Centre now has a hearing loop available in its main hall. This provides an enhanced sound volume for those whose hearing aids have a ‘T’ setting.
The hearing aid works via the Holmer Green Players mixer which is locked away in the Playgroup store. However, it can be turned on via a switch located in the locked metal box to the right as you enter the main hall.
The hearing loop can be ‘powered’ with a signal for the hearing aid ‘T’ setting in one of the three following ways.
- By using one or more of the radio mics – also located in the metal cupboard mentioned above (see below for instructions on turning these on and use).
- By performing on the stage where 6 microphones hung above the stage will pick up your voice (works well for adults, not so well for children). There are two rows of three microphones to cover the stage when extended.
- By plugging any sort of audio device with a 3.5mm headphone socket to a long cable also located in the locked metal cupboard mentioned above.
Please follow this general advice and information:
- Please turn on the hearing loop (using the switch in the locked box) before turning any hearing aid to ‘T’. If this is not done very loud clicks will be experienced by the hearing aid user.
- Best performance is likely to be experienced near the side walls of the hall rather than in the centre of the room, although a signal can be received throughout the room.
- When using the radio mics, three switches must be turned on:
- The mains switch in the metal box (with glowing light)
- The on-off switch on the radio mic
- The switch that powers the receivers. This is on a socket in the main hall to the left of the doors to the committee room which has a wire to the receivers plugged in to it. Any one of these switches turned off will prevent the microphones’ output reaching the loop.
- There is a low hum on the system. This is unavoidable with a loop of this size and does not appear to effect those who use the system.
Specific instructions for:
- Radio mics: These need to be turned on with a switch on the units. There are two types:
- Lapel mics with a mic that clips on your lapel and a separate transmitter/battery pack. The switch is on the pack – it does notshow a light when on but does flash a light as it is turned on.
- Hand mic. This has a switch on the main body. The switch has three settings (location assumes that you hold the mic vertically in front of you with the bit you speak in to at the top)
- Bottom Switch position: Off
- Middle switch position: On but muted
- Top switch position: On
Please note that the receiver switch must be on to use these mics! This switch is to a power point in the main hall to the left of the doors to the committee room where the receivers are plugged in.
- Audio equipment: This can be plugged in to the hearing loop using a long lead locked away in the metal cupboard. One end of the lead plugs in to two sockets in the metal cupboard; the other has a 3.5mm jack plug (see example right) that will plug in to the headphone socket on many stereos etc.
Please use the following procedure:
- Turn on your equipment with the volume control at zero
- Turn on the switch in the metal cupboard
- Turn a hearing aid to the ‘T’ setting
- Slowly increase the volume on the audio equipment until the hearing aid user has a pleasant listening volume.
- Turn everything off by reversing this process
