6-DAY USHA BLIND SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDES

Highlights

·  J.P.M. Sr. Sec. School for the Blind, Delhi lifts Men's Kabaddi Championship.

·  Association for the Blind Persons, Delhi wins Women's Kabaddi Championship.

Curtain came down on the week-long Usha Sports championships for the Blind with closing ceremony held at the Blind Relief Association grounds today. Preceding the ceremony the final mach of Men's Kabaddi Championship was played between J.P.M. School Delhi and Vocational Training Centre, Delhi. J.P.M. School retained the Championship with them. Ms. Chhaya Shriram, Director, Usha International, gave away Championship Trophies to the winners. The Chairperson of Indian Blind Sports Association, Mrs. Radhika Bharat Ram lauded the spirit and prowess of the competitors who had come to take part in Kabaddi, Judo and Powerlifting competitions. She particularly noted the large number of female participants (140) in this event and hoped more and more visually impaired women will take to sports.

Earlier in the morning in Women's Kabaddi final Association for the Blind Persons, Delhi beat National Federation of the Blind by 67-63 points. Also the remaining bouts of Judo were held in which more than 100 judo players from across the country participated and the winners were awarded medals in different categories.

Results

Women’s Kabaddi

In the final match played today Association for the Blind Persons beat National Federation of the blind, Delhi by 67-63 points.

For the third position National Sports Club of the Blind, Mumbai Devnar Foundation for the Blind, Hyderabad, Telangana by 69-60 points.

Men’s Kabaddi

In the final match played today J.P.M. Sr. Sec. School for the Blind trounced Vocational Training Centre, Delhi by 104-26 points.

For the third position A.I.A.S.H.A, Mumbai beat beat Blind Persons Association, Himachal Pradesh by 58-24 points.

Over 540 participants, including 140 female blind sports persons from 18 states, namely, Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, HP, Telangana,Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, UP, TN,MP, Chattisgarh, AP, Haryana, West Bengal and J&K are participating in this blind sports event which will conclude on Saturday, 13 January. The sports events include 4th IBSA Kabaddi Championships; 7th IBSA Powerlifting Championships; 2nd IBSA Judo Championship; and Coaching Camp and Seminar on Blind Sports.
