The total model engineering package!Mega event of the year is Faszination Modellbau Friedrichshafenfrom 3.-5.11.2017!

One thing is clear: Covering an area of 61,000 square metres, this year's International Fair for Model Railways and Model Making in conjunction with the Indoor Steam Engine Meeting is the largest model engineering event in the world. From classic model railways, model ships, cars, trucks and military vehicles to the diversity of aero modelling, plastic and paper modelling and the latest in trendy drones: With over 400 exhibitors from more than 15 countries, only Faszination Modellbau offers the total bandwidth of modellingwith boundless opportunities to observe, admire and purchase.

Hissing steam engines can be seen parading around the tracks or standing majestically on presentation tables. Clouds of smoke waft over the Roadworker Arena, signalising a ferocious opening show, while snow ploughs top their perfect choreography with a freestyle performance. Magnificent ocean liners put to seafor a longvoyageon the 400 m² water pool. Miniature passengersand travellers populate the platforms of delightful model railway layouts. Outside adrenaline runs high asRC drivers race their hot wheels over the dirt track. On the airfield large crowds gather towatch unique flight performances by prominent model aircraft pilots. Looking for the absolute thrill factor? Drone racing is the latest testosterone-boosting new trend in e-sports. And here are more highlights in store for the international model-making community at Faszination Modellbau:

Masters of the skyatthe "Stars of the Year" show

Champion pilots and top presenters mingle in relaxed atmosphere in front of a spectacular backdropat the Faszination Modellbau air show "Stars of the Year". And as always on Saturday and Sunday of the mega event, internationally prestigious pilots fly their fantastic aero models on the Friedrichshafen airfield, their planeschoreographed to superb music.

Among them is superstar QuiqueSomenzini. He is known in the industry as the most dynamic and influential player in RC flying. Fascinated by the skill of his father, himself an F3A champion at the time, the young Argentinian spent most of his free time on the airfield. He watched the pilots' artistic flight sequences meticulously, and studied the model planes down to the last detail. He moved on from theory to practice and at nine years oldQuiquecompleted his first solo flight– the beginning of his unique career inaeromodelling sport. He won his first F3A championship in Argentina when he was twelve. At the subsequent F3A championship in South Africa he set the record which is unbroken until today: as the youngest pilot ever to compete for an F3A World Championship title.Quiquewon numerous international titles and became one of the best ever RC pilots. Not least due to his pioneer spirit: He is believed to be the first pilot in the world to have perfected flight beyond motor stalling, and is therefore recognised as the inventor of 3D flight. And as a designer of many well-known flight models he has achieved much more, and will continue to play a decisive role in shaping model aviation sport in the future.

Marc Petrak is bringing the ultimate in jets - the L39 Albatros - to start at the "Stars of the Year". The currently largest RC jet model in the world is 4.65 metres long, has a wingspan of 3.50 metres and its take-off weight with eight litres of kerosene is 77 kg. Equipped with a JetCat P550, the aircraft in scale 1:2.7 has a thrust-weight ratio of almost 1:1 and is practically impossible to distinguish from the original both in sound and performance, as everyone will be able to experience live atFaszination Modellbau in Friedrichshafen. Many other highlights such as the award-winning self-build of a 4 metre Savage Bobber by Hugo Christen and numerous amazing flight performances byWorld, European and German Masters guarantee a brilliant end of the season for the aeromodellingcommunity at the world's largest model engineering event in Friedrichshafen.Flight schedules for the show are available on

Technologytestosterone at the FPV Drone Races

Faszination Modellbau presents brillianttake-offs, cool challenges and exciting chases at the FPV Drone Races in Hall A6, also on Saturday and Sunday. The e-athletes sit in deep concentration in their hoodies and baseball caps at the super-sensitive controls, nothing seems to stir behind their 3D glasses. But then off they go: 3, 2, 1, Action! With a whirring sound the racing drones shoot around the treacherous,obstacle-packed coursewith their powerful little electric motors. The demand on reaction capacity and the pilot's concentration are high. A live video link from the drone camera controls the aircraft, as if the pilot were on board – as the name of the system implies: FPV = "First person view". At the same time the audience is networked via big screens directly with the view from the multicopter so that they are fully integrated in every flight manoeuvre with the real and digital drone action. Crashes occur frequently, so the winning drone is always accompanied by frenetic applause as it hurtles through the goalposts. And this indoor spectacle is not just for drone specialists. The technology in these little sport machines is an amazing combination of powerful computer, location sensors, the latest battery technology, fibre-reinforced plastics, GPS navigation and a 3D camera which plays a significant role in the current drone boom. The latest generation of multicopter models even have a tracking function to film the owner at any time in his outdoor activity. This sport event is a testosterone-loaded experience for the pilots and the audience! In addition, all weekend there will be informationon the new e-sport drone racing, about the pilots, and, of course, about the contest. All the necessary equipment andinnovative models with the latest features are available in Hall A1.

Live steam action fun on the miniature railway

It's long. Very long. And it is the centrepiece of the popular Indoor Steam Engine Meeting: the world's longest 5 inch track layout in a hall where over 4 kilometres of trackhave been used. A shunting yard, transfer table, points, turntable and loading terminal alongside the tracks guarantee realistic and smooth rail traffic. Lorries are loaded up, containers unloaded, silos emptied. And above all: iconic steam engines take young railway fans and nostalgic railway buffs for a ride around the tracks. Another highlight for steam fans of all ages are the daily parades of steam-driven vehicles and traction engines that chuff through the hall and offer another memorable ride for everyone to enjoy. After all, the many quirky vintage vehicles with their aptly dressed drivers are a unique experience and a first rate spectacle! Another fascinating display of steam power comes to life when it is show time on the 400 m² volume water pool:Impressive ocean liners, pinnaces, stern wheelers and paddle steamers with smoking funnels churn up the waves. And that's still not all! On dry land there are also numerous magnificent steam ship models to admire. At the sound of the word "tinplate" the eyes of railway buffs light up. The fact that the models on show are all original vintage pieces makes this part of the steam meeting a real curiosity show. To sum up: The Indoor Steam Engine Meeting offers the steam modelling community innumerable fantastic steam exhibits - model railways, road vehicles, ships and stationary steam engines can be seen live and in action, as always conveying the enthralling experience of seeing how one wheel connects with another in fabulous mechanical harmony. Nowhere will you find more model railways - with and without steam!

Mr. Eisenbahn-Romantikon the trail of model railway history

Railway TV star Hagen von Ortloffis a genuine (hi)story specialist. He presents, as always close by his audience, exciting model railway history with little Swiss marvels on dainty, narrow rails. His layout with models by the traditional Swiss company WESA takes spectators back to the time of the 1940s up until the end of the 60s. When WESA was founded in Inkwil in the Swiss Oberaargau region in the year 1945, the first locomotives ran on a track width of 13 millimetres in scale 1:110 and were operated with alternating current. They were modelled primarily on Swiss originals, however there were also some foreign locomotives too. The undisputed highlight in the program was a multi-part American diesel with Domelinercarriages. Noteworthy for the time was that in 1947 WESA railways were already exported to over 70 countries. In 1966 production was discontinued. The reason for this was the upcoming gauge N. The WESA railway is still maintained by a circle of enthusiasts today with old moulds being used to produce models and parts. Among these enthusiasts are Hagen von Ortloff and his railway friend Lutz Mackey who will be presenting this formerly worldwide smallest electric railway system to visitors at Faszination Modellbau.

And this extraordinary highlight is only one of many that await the community at the world's largest model-making event. Two of the exhibition halls host a gigantic cosmos for railway enthusiasts, craftsmen, miniature landscape gardeners, track technicians and electronics fans. Rolling stock in all gauges, drive technology, model railway software, landscape models, figures, lighting technology and much more are available at the exhibition stands of leading brand manufacturers as well as small series manufacturers and accessory suppliers. Live railway modelling, steam locomotives and beautiful model railway layouts in all common gauges are presented by exhibitors, clubs and model societies.

"Operation Neptune"a dioramadepicts world history

"Omaha Beach" was the name given by theAllied forces duringWWII to the section of the Normandy coastwhere US troops landedwithin "Operation Neptune" in June 1944. It was the most extensive landing operation ever in the world to date, during which the Allied forces were able to gain ground and build bridgeheadsin Normandy, which were then extended by the subsequent troops. The model ship diorama "Omaha Beach anno June 44" is dedicated to this historically significant event and is presented by the club MBV Hofstade from Belgium at Faszination Modellbau 2017. On the left-hand side construction has started on the Mulberry A harbour, an artificially erected supply port, consisting of floating pontoons connected by bridge elements with larger pontoons functioning as jetties for the supply ships. At the centre of the diorama landing ships stand side by side, and from their open bowramps tanks and trucks are unloading onto the beach to maintain defence and supplies. Further out to sea Liberty ships are unloaded from floating Rhino Ferry pontoons, protected by submersible Phoenix caissons as wave breakers. Little remote-controlled harbour tugs work tirelessly towing the larger vessels to the landing stages. In the sky above the diorama we see barrage balloons connected to the ships and Dakota C47 transport aircraft, which later came to be known as so-called candy-bombers, flying around the ships.

Many more aquatic activities and water shows, from energy-packed power boats to miniature yachts, from magnificent model gallions to nostalgicsteam ships, can be seen in Hall A5 at the ModellWerft-Action show on the 400 m² water pool as well as outdoors on the Trade Fair Lake.

Quirky characters, unique flying creations, extra-terrestrial superstars

These are the attributes of the wittiest indoor flight show in the scene. Within the 30x30 metre large and 13 metre high indoor flying zone at Faszination Modellbau, for three days creative self-builds, RC slow flyers and RC electric flight modelscan be seen floating through the air. And among the pilots of course our young friend Martin Münster, who with his flying skills will again thrill spectators irrespective of age and modelling prowess at the "Indoor Action" show. And he will be bringing an innovation by AIRC2fly with him - the motor hang gliderAgilis.

And talking of friends and quirky characters...Our regular galactic visitor at Faszination Modellbau is no other than little StarWars droid R2D2. And there's not just one of him, but many cloned versions as well. So every Star Wars fan can have their personal Meet-and-Greet including a selfie with the popular Astromech droid. Another member of the extra-terrestrial exhibition crew this year is the cheekier-than-normalrobot C1-10P, better known as "Chopper" of the Star Wars Rebels. He has already successfully carried out numerous missions against the Galactic Empire and is now looking forward to a relaxingvisit to the exhibition in Friedrichshafen. Lots of fun is guaranteed wherever the robots are, andchildren's eyes are sure to light up.

Well-chosen activities and play areas for children and families

Promotion of the next generation within the devoted modelling community is a central theme at Faszination Modellbau. The first day of the fair, Friday 03.11.2017, is again dedicated to schools and kindergartens. This Project Day offers numerous special activities for children, introducing them to the fascinating possibilities that the world of model engineering offers. Exhibitors, model clubs and societies put heart and soul into their involvement to actively guide young hobbyists as they learn how to build model houses, create landscapes or design their own gliders. In activity zones and large play areas, run among others by companies such as Märklin and Tillig, the next modelling generation can try out for themselves building and driving models to their hearts' content. In the world of miniatures it is even possible for the youngsters to obtain a model truck driving licence or captain's patent.

Throughout the duration of the fair many creative and informative hands-on activities and workstations are on offer representing all sectors of model making - on land, on water and in the air: Aircraft modelling, model cars, trucks and military modelling, steam modelling, model railways, plastic and paper modelling and ship modelling. Spectacular challenges, such as the German Open RCCar Masters 2017, the highly popular expert forums for aero modelling and model railways, thrilling show programmes with giant vehicles in miniature format, and so much more, all add up to making Faszination Modellbau Friedrichshafena superlative event!

NEW:Free Wi-Fi is available for exhibitors and visitors on all three exhibition days for top digital networking of the model-making community in all sectors.
