Title of Post: Education Officer

Accountable to: The membership of APTUK

Responsible to: The Executive Committee of APTUK

Requirements:

The post holder must:

To be employed in a pharmacy related field.

Have a current working knowledge of political and practical issues relating to pharmacy.

Have up to date knowledge of current pharmacy practice.

Have a good current understanding of the workings and procedures of APTUK.

Hold full APTUK membership.

Be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Job Description: To lead on the APTUK development and strategy.

To respond to and inform on changing education requirements for entry to the GPhC register and specialist or advanced practice roles.

To attend all APTUK meetings including AGM and Conference(s)

Where possible, attend external meetings upon request.

Duties of Post:

1.  To attend all Executive / Officer meetings and the AGM, and to submit a report at

the Executive Officer meetings and the AGM.

2.  To attend any external meetings as deemed necessary by the Executive Committee

and submit a written report of such meetings, to the Honorary Secretary.

3.  To attend APTUK Conference(s) and be available to the members whenever possible.

4. Keep records of all expenditure on postage, stationary, telephone calls etc.

to be submitted to the Treasurer when necessary.

5. To participate in responses to external consultations, and any other documents

that requires responses from APTUK.

6. To maintain contact with the Board of National Officers.

Education:

1. To be knowledgeable about all aspects of Training, Education and Development available

for pre- and post-registration Pharmacy Technicians.

2. To liaise with the regulator and educational organisations on all aspects and updates of

Pharmacy Technician education and development needs

3. To promote and support the career pathways of Pharmacy Technicians

4. To reply to all correspondence received requesting information on Training,

Education and Development available to Pharmacy Technicians.

5. To liaise with the Student Representative(s) Officer(s) about course provision for

Pre- registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians.

6. To liaise with Publicity Officer when contacting colleges to ensure that all

publicity material promoting APTUK is available to colleges and students on

request.

7. To take the lead in the development and updating of the APTUK career leaflet, and

liaise with other Officers for distribution to all interested parties.

8. To be part of the National Officer contact group liaising with the (National or 1day)

conference organising committee.

9. To represent APTUK on the NHS Education & Development Support Staff Specialist

Group.

10.To represent APTUK at the CEPT annual conference with another designated APTUK

Officer.

11. To liaise with the CPD coordinator and the CPD recording system provider to ensure appropriate recording systems are in place to meet regulatory and APTUK requirements

12 To liaise with the CPD coordinator to facilitate signposting of educational opportunities to

support CPD and fitness to practice requirements

13. To be available where possible to judge Pharmacy Technician awards.
