Job Title: Maintenance Intern

Mission/Authority
The essential purpose of Trail West is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to families. This is largely accomplished at Young Life camps through activities that illustrate certain aspects of Christ's life and teachings. Each activity conducted by Young Life staff in the camp environment is intended to convey a specific message about Christ, in a manner that is coordinated with other activities, leading to a continual spiritual experience during the week.
The duties of the Maintenance intern are an integral part of the spiritual program of the camp. The intern must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern as he/she relates to guests and staff. All staff members are expected to model Christian principles and the standards of Young Life at work and outside of work; staff members must represent Young Life positively and professionally within the local community.
The sound and program intern’s top priority is to assist/serve the program team in any and all aspects of program. The sound and program intern must equally ensure that all audio/visual equipment camp-wide is fully functional and assist the program tech with duties when the club room is used for an all camp event.
Essential Duties

  1. Minister to, direct and encourage guests and staff in a manner consistent with Christian principles, Young Life’s mission and the spiritual program of the camp.
  2. Convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff.
  3. Prompt attendance on a daily basisInteract with guests and staff with safety as first priority
  4. Maintain a professional appearance as required to provide efficient service to the property (no dirty or torn clothes, collared shirts, etc..)
  5. Execute DIN & PM items as assigned. Check and repair items on the DIN list twice daily
  6. Document all work completed and items maintained
  7. Supervise and work alongside the Maintenance summer staff to ensure that tasks are being performed up to standards and in the proper priority, in a timely manner and in sync with the rest of property operation.
  8. Be available to assist and supervise special events such as carnival or tableau.
  9. Be able to rise to the unexpected needs of guests and staff that are not related to the task at hand.
  10. Be willing and able to lead Maint. SS and ODC in devotions on a regular basis.
  11. Attend all intern devotions and functions as well as be an active participant in intern community.

Qualifications

  1. Must display a mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  2. Previous Young Life summer staff experience or equivalent.
  3. Acceptance of and compliance with Young life's statements of faith and mission purpose statement, and Young Life's policies and principles.
  4. Must be capable of spending the entire workday standing or walking
  5. Must be adaptable to all work environments – inside and out
  6. Must be capable of working on projects over / above head, as well as bending, kneeling, crawling in / around attics and crawlspaces, etc..
  7. Capable of digging, shoveling and raking various compounds
  8. Must be able to maintain equipment and a clean and organized work area.
  9. Use of basic hand tools and power tools
  10. Be a leader by example in matter of conduct as well as performance of duties
  11. Must be self-motivated, able to work and lead others with minimal supervision and possess a willingness to learn and accept direction from property staff and assigned team.
