The Connecticut Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners awards a scholarship each calendar year to encourage and assist applicants in taking the Certified Fraud Examiner examination.
The scholarship will cover the cost of:
- The ACFE's CD-ROM-based self-study CFE Exam Prep Course; and
- The CFE Exam itself.
These costs will be paid directly by the Chapter to the ACFE on behalf of the successful applicant.
Applicants can be either students or non-students. Please see the criteria below for each type of applicant.
CRITERIA FOR STUDENT:
- Applicant must currently be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in his or her 3rd or 4th year, or a part-time graduate student.
- Undergraduates must be enrolled 12 semester hours (or equivalent) per term and graduate students must be enrolled 6 semester hours (or equivalent) per term.
- Applicant must have a declared major in accounting, business administration, finance, or criminal justice at an accredited college or university. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to approve exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
- Applicant must prepare an essay (1,000 words or less) on why he or she is pursuing a career in fraud prevention.
- Applicant must provide a copy of his or her most recent transcript showing all completed college or university courses (unofficial transcripts are acceptable but require review and acceptance by the Chapter Scholarship Committee).
- Applicant must have a 3.0 average (B) or better in his or her overall GPA.
- Prior to the interview, the applicant must submit a complete package for review to the Chapter Scholarship Committee. This package will include the following:
- A letter addressed to the ACFE Chapter Scholarship Committee applying for the scholarship, documenting:
- Compliance with the criteria above;
- Purpose(s) for which the funds will be used; and
- The mailing address, telephone number, and a contact person (if applicable) of the applicant’s designated institution to which a check will be mailed directly (if fees are to be reimbursed to an employer, etc.).
- Copies of transcripts (requested above) as support for meeting the criteria.
- The required essay on the pursuit of a career in fraud prevention.
- Once the package has been received and reviewed, the applicant must agree to be interviewed in person by the Scholarship Committee.

- Once the package has been received and reviewed, the applicant must agree to be interviewed in person by the Scholarship Committee.
Our selection of a suitable recipient will be primarily based on the content of candidates' essays, which MUST include the candidate’s timeline of submitting the pre-exam and examination itself to the National office of the ACFE.
The CFE examination must be taken within twelve months of the award of a scholarship.
