BOOMERANG 2018
MARCH 2,3,4 2018
Dear Contestants, Crew and Guests –
On behalf of Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club, we extend an invitation to each and every member of your Yacht Club to participate in the IPBA Sanctioned 57th BOOMERANG NAVIGATION CONTEST.
All Bridge Officers, Members of the Board, participants and guests are in for a special weekend of fellowship, great food, and partying. Oh yes, there is also the friendly competition of a navigation contest, too!
This year for the first time, we are offering a class of competition that may use electronics. Please see details inside. This should make an opportunity for those who have never participated to have fun without the complexities of a “classic” competition.
We cannot guarantee your score, but we can guarantee MBYC’s tradition of hospitality. You will especially enjoy dancing to the sounds of Red Right Returningafter Saturday’s dinner. Withreservations, all contestants, guests and observers are welcome for the Saturday dinner and dancing.
Please review the details, complete our reservation form, and e-mail to Paul Haack, our Power Regatta Chair at . If you are coming by boat to our docks, moorage will be available from Friday noon. Hail us on VHF 78 as you come in and we will direct you to the moorage.
Questions? Please send Paul an e-mail, or call him at 206-617-3678.
Sincerely,
Bill Herman
Commodore, MBYC

USE of ELECTRONICS –
Historically, Predicted Log Contests are known for competition without GPS, time devices (watches, cell phones, etc.) or any device that shows speed, radar, or other electronic enhancements that help a competitor get close to a prediction. Tachometers and compasses have always been allowed. For BOOMERANG 2018, any entrant that wishes to runthe course with electronics may do so without restriction on the type ofelectronics. You are free to make your prediction, and have fun! But, your score will be considered only against others using electronics, and will not count in the “classic” competition.
Running the course with electronics will help you in future events by helping you determine your actual speed very accurately. Also, you will not require an observer.
By request to Paul Haack, MBYC Power Regatta Chair, MBYC will supply an experiencedNavigator to anyone wishing to run the course with electronics. This Navigator can help the new participant understand the event more thoroughly, and really have a fun day.
