TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

General Description: Maintain a high level of enthusiasm and commitment to Catholic values; support and implement the philosophy of Catholic education; teach students in accordance with established course outlines, curriculum guides, and textbook content.

Required Qualifications:

  • Catholic, if possible
  • Qualified according to TCCED requirements:

High school teachers must be qualified in the content area taught as well as be able to relate and work with high school students.

  • Committed to the philosophy and mission of Catholic Schools
  • Complete a criminal background check and Safe Environment Training
  • Adhere to the Diocesan Code of Conduct
  • Primary teachers (PK-3) must be able to meet physical requirements needed to teach and to supervise the young child.

General Duties:

Professional Responsibilities

  1. Organize, supervise and instruct assigned classes for optimal learning.
  2. Assist students, fellow teachers, parents and administrators in making the school environment one in which maximum growth as Catholic citizens may take place.
  3. Demonstrate evidence of prior planning and preparation of lesson plans.
  4. Communicate with students’ parents so as to assure that parents are fully aware of the religious, academic and social progress being made by their children.
  5. Work cooperatively with administration and school staff.
  6. Assume responsibility for supervision of students when assigned by the principal.
  7. Follow basic content objectives from school’s established course outlines, curriculum guides and textbooks.
  8. Provide flexible and appropriate activities for children with special learning needs.
  9. Carry out the standard record keeping required by the principal and the diocese.
  10. Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations with students and parents.
  11. Meet appropriate dress code requirements.
  12. If applicable, work toward catechist certification and/or on-going hours of formation.
  13. Remain current in curriculum and teaching trends and take advantage of opportunities for further professional growth. Attend workshops and in-services according to diocesan and local policies.

Student Supervision

  1. Never leave the classroom unsupervised when students are present.
  2. Supervise the arrival and dismissal of students.
  3. Supervise students during mass or other liturgical celebrations.
  4. Supervise students going to and returning from special classes such as gym, music, etc., and when classes change.
  5. Supervise, as the schedule requires, recess periods in the morning and afternoon, and at lunch recess.
  6. Supervise the students going to the lunch room and during emergency drills.

General Classroom Maintenance:

  1. See that desk, shelves, window ledges and cabinets are in order and clear of unnecessary obstructions.
  2. Supervise general, daily cleaning of boards and maintain unobstructed floor space.
  3. Keep bulletin boards current and attractive.
  4. Require students to maintain orderly work spaces.

Parents and Students

  1. Make an effort to be positive in all personal contact (avoid negative comments).
  2. Inform the principal of unusual situations and occurrences.
  3. Be prepared for the unexpected and be willing to give the benefit of doubt before making serious judgments of students.
  4. Attend parent-teacher conferences and Home and School Meetings.
  5. Support the administration and school staff.

Other:

  1. Plan, with other teachers, field trips for students according to local policies.
  2. Inform the principal, other affected teachers and support staff of any plans that will be different from the normal daily schedule.
  3. Any, and all other duties as assigned by the principal.
