EASTER SCRIPT 2009

Narrator – Number One - Male Voice

The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the most important event that has ever occurred in the entire history of our World. It is the very heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Mosiah tells us “Salvation was, and is, and is to come, in and through the atoning blood of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent”

Jesus is the only person on the Earth that was born from a Mortal Mother and an Immortal Father. This is the reason he is called the Only Begotten Son. From his Motherhe inherited mortality and was subject to hunger, thirst, fatigue, pain and death. From his Father he inherited divine powers of immortality; no one could take His life from him unless He willed it. He had the power to lay it down and to take His body back up again after dying.

Heavenly Father could have sent power and angels from Heaven to save Jesus, His beloved son, who on His right hand had helped Him create the worlds. But God also loved each and every one of us, and wanted us to be saved, therefore He allowed for

His Son to make this sacrifice.

In John we read “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son, into the world, to condemn the world; but that the world, through Him

might be saved.”

Adam and Eve were the first man and woman created. They were given commandments to be fruitful and have children but not to eat the forbidden fruit. Theyalso had free agency to obey or disobey. After they had eaten of the forbidden fruit they became mortal and were able to have children but now would also be subject to death and dying.

Jesus Christ had the power to pay for all the sins of mankind from Adam to the End of the World. He had the power to Save the World.

Since by the Transgression of one man, Adam, in the Garden of Eden came the ability for all mankind to die, so by the Sacrifice of one man, Jesus Christ, in the Garden of Gethsemane came the ability for all mankind to live.

The apostle Paul taught us“for since by man came death, by man came the resurrection of the dead, For as in Adam all die, Even so in Christ shall all be made alive”

The great prophets of the Old Testament from Adam to Abraham, Moses, Enoch and Noah and the prophets upon the American Continent, Lehi, Nephi and King Benjamin,

All testified that Jesus Christ the Son of God would come to Earth.

Nephi concludes the testimonies of the early prophecies by saying “And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins”

The children testified of Jesus in 3rd Nephi when they proclaimed, “Hosanna blessed be the name of the Most High God.” Here are the children of our ward proclaiming of Jesus.

In John Chapter 15 Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends, Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you.”

Jesus had been condemned to die because he had testified that he was the Son of God.The night before the Crucifixion, he went to a garden to pray. There He began the process of the Atonement where he suffered and endured pain and torment that no Mortal could comprehend. His pores filled with drops of blood from this anguish. His suffering satisfied the demands of justice and paid the penalties of all the sins of all Mortals who have lived or will ever live upon the Earth. This all Consuming anguish was suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane.

The next day Jesus’suffering continued as He was physically beaten, tortured and humiliated and in his weakened condition, He was made to carry his own cross up the hill. As His family, friends, followers and disciples, who knew of his divinity, looked on in horror at this cruelabuse of their Righteous, Kind, Benevolent Savior;they witnessed nails being driven through His hands and feet. An unjust payment for the Lord who had healed the sick, given sight unto the blind, caused the lame to walk, and was now Himself in excruciating pain. Willingly, He submitted to offer Himself as a sacrifice for mankind.

When Jesus knew that his sacrifice was complete and accepted, He said in a loud voice, “It is finished, Father into thy hands I commend my spirit” He bowed his head and on His own accord voluntarily gave up His spirit. The Savior of all mankind had paid the price for our sins.

The Earth shook as if to mourn its creator. This violent earthquake was recorded in Jerusalem in the Bible, and in America in the Book of Mormon.

There were three days of darkness over the Earth. On the third day, Jesus returned to his body and took it up again. He was the first to overcome death.

Shortly after his resurrection the Savior appeared to the Nephites in America.

Silently, as the clouds parted was his introduction, angelic as a still small voice.

We read in 3rd Nephi that the people then heard his voice saying, “I am Jesus Christ whom the prophets testified shall come into the world…Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole Earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world … therefore repent, and come unto me, ye ends of the earth, and be saved.”

I have a testimony of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

Christ said in the Doctrine and Covenants “For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent.”

I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me. Our Savior suffered that we might not suffer. He rose again that we might be resurrected. All things did he do for us.
