PURPOSE:To ensure that the health and wellbeing of students is managed and supported.

To provide a safe and effective primary health care nursing service

To act as an advocate in maximising access to health care opportunities

KEY TASK / EXPECTED OUTCOMES / PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
1.1STUDENT HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Administer First Aid
Management of Illness/injury/incident / Assess and treat injuries and/or illness complaints
Notify parent/guardian(s) of students injury/illness if necessary
Recommend appropriate course of action based on assessment
Administer medication held on behalf of students
Managing Medical Resources
Supervise Students in casualty rooms
Ensure casualty rooms and surgery is kept clean
Organise/Liaise with Vision Care and Blood Agencies
Participate in Health programs if requested
Maintain First Aid kits / Students treated in an appropriate manner
To provide first aid only to staff
Having Standard Orders for those medication able to administer
First Aid Kits are kept stocked and available for school trips
2.1 REFERRAL TO SPECIALISTS
Manage the referral of students to relevant specialists / Refer students to Public Health Nurse/Family Doctor/School Doctor/Guidance Counsellors
Maintain confidentiality of student information / Health referrals dealt with by appropriate specialist
3.1ACT AS PRACTICE NURSE FOR DOCTOR
Assist Doctor during surgery hours and administer medical treatment as instructed by Doctor or standing orders / Bloods are taken, injections given as requested by Doctor and Ensure samples are collected by Path Lab
Conduct diagnostic testing when needed / Doctor has support and assistance whilst working at school
Doctor requests are met in a professional manner
Standing Orders are adhered to when Doctor not at School
Procedures followed in a safe and competent manner
Samples completed by nurse or referred to appropriate services by required timeframes and collected
Administrative Tasks
ACC Claims
Maintain Student Records
Keep updated with Standing Orders within Health Centre and Ensure practice certificate is current
Supervise training nursing students and ensure appraisal is completed
Network with staff of Fraser High
First Aid Budget / Complete ACC records for claims
Enter medical records for students and ensure that information is maintained in a confidential manner
Attend all relevant Health Centre and staff meetings when required
Organise First-Aid courses for Staff
Liaise with HR to keep Health and Safety Handbook updated (annually)
Purchase and maintain medical supplies / ACC Claims completed electronically
Staff are trained and attain a First Aid Certificate
Expenditure monitored
4.1 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Maintain knowledge and attend any professional development approved by Head of Health Centre / Knowledge base attained – currently 60 hours over 3 years
Health and Safety awareness and understanding
Member of NZ Nurses Organisation (NZNO) / Ensure membership is maintained
