Job Title:Lead Peer Mentor for Cyfle Cymru, our new Out of Work Peer Mentoring Service

Reports To:Cyfle Cymru Out-of-Work Service Project Manager

Responsible For:Peer Mentors and Assistant Peer Mentors

Grade /Salary:£20,456 – 21,745 per annum

Location:Bridgend

Hours: Weekly:37.5

Job Purpose:
  • To raise awareness of Cyfle Cymru, Out of Work Peer Mentoring Service
  • To develop and maintain robust referral pathways into the scheme
  • To manage the Peer Mentors
  • To deliver Peer Mentoring services as follows:
  • Provide support and supervision to Peer Mentors
  • Mentor the Peer Mentors
  • Support the Peer Mentors in raising awareness of the service and in meeting project outcomes

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Play an active part in Cyfle Cymru, developing personal and professional skills and experience in effectively supervising and mentoring others
  • Develop Cyfle Cymru in line with project outcomes
  • Develop and deliver effective ways of supporting and supervising paid and volunteer peer mentors in the delivery of a high quality service, with guidance from the Cyfle Cymru Area Contact.
  • Oversee the provision of peer led support, information, guidance, advocacy and other interventions to participants ofCyfle Cymru, based on their assessed needs, as part of a package of care and progression
  • Allocate participants to appropriate peer mentors based on location, risk, previous association, knowledge and skills
  • Liaise with other organisations and advocate, when appropriate, on behalf of service users and peer mentors
  • Hold a caseload of participants and support them into meaningful activities, training and employment
  • Monitor all activities and ensure that they are recorded accurately and within agreed timescales in accordance with Welsh Government and ESF requirements
  • Represent Cyfle Cymru at meetings and events adhering to a professional code of conduct at all times
  • Understand health and safety good practice, including ensuring that Cyfle Cymru’s participants are aware of these issues
  • Encourage anti-discriminatory behaviour and practice, promoting Cyfle Cymru’s Equal Opportunities Policy, being sensitive to the language needs of all service users, arranging appropriate support for speakers of different languages and maintaining an awareness of the diverse needs and abilities of participants, responding appropriately to these needs
  • Provide regular one-to-one line management supervision to paid and volunteer peer mentors
  • Work alongside Remploy as partners within the service.

Professional:
  • Participate in the continuous learning, development and appraisal process
  • Assist with the delivery of peer mentoring training.
  • Identify and contribute towards any aspects of Cyfle Cymru where improvement can be made and to advise service and managers accordingly
  • Make regular use of supervision.
  • Maintain professional accreditation as appropriate to role
  • Attend training provided, organised or arranged by DACW and its partners
  • Operate within and observe all policies and procedures as amended and updated as required by each partner agency
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with external agencies.

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications and training / GCSE English Literature or Language, grade C or above (or equivalent).
Good standard of literacy and numeracy / NVQ Level 3 in Information, Advice and Guidance/ willingness to work towards this
Skills and abilities / Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to collate data and information accurately.
Excellent IT skills: Competency in Microsoft Word and other Microsoft packages.
Well developed inter-personal skills and the ability to relate to service users in a non-judgmental manner.
Networking skills
Experience of front line management or a supervisory role
Experience/ Knowledge / Experience and knowledge relating to supporting individuals with substance misuse or mental health issues
Personal knowledge or experience of substance misuse or mental health issues / Experience and knowledge relating to supporting individuals into education, training and employment
Personal effectiveness / Organisational skills and an ability to manage time effectively.
