HLC Committee Report

  • We will have our second annual Summer Symposium: Countdown to Reaccreditation, July 20th in the PV Education Center from 8:30 to noon. Email invitations have been sent to all MCC employees. You can register with Melissa Giese to attend.
  • Current Program: Bob Mundhenk as keynote, Flash Five Assessment Reports (5 slides in 5 minutes), Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Results

Survey Reports

Noel Levitz Survey of Student Satisfaction

  • The Noel-Levitz online Student Satisfaction Inventory closed on April 20th.We had 1648 students respond which is more than we survey with CCSSE.
  • Overall results will be presented at the Symposium July 20th. Plans to present campus level and departmental level data include providing results to small groups in the fall that relate to the survey content areas.
  • Students were randomly selected for winning the bookstore gift cards. Three winners from each campus will receive a $25 MCC bookstore gift card. Melissa is trying to coordinate a picture of winners for an Insider article.

MCC Open Pathway Improvement Project Report

Kristy presented a brochure describing assessment at MCC to be reviewed and approved before final printing. Additionally, a poster was made identifying general education outcomes. The poster was reviewed for approval for printing. Posters will be hung throughout the campuses. Quantities and locations have yet to be determined.

Kristy compiled a listing of Discipline outcomes for the First and Second Cohorts.

Discipline Reports

Sociology-Jessica Halperin-

They have decided upon 4 discipline outcomes. They will be assessing Critical Thinking outcome #3 because it seemed like a natural fit. They will use an embedded essay assessment on the final. A rubric has been chosen. They will meet for a norming session. All faculty will be participating and part-time faculty will be encouraged.

Chemistry-

They will use 9 embedded questions in CHEM 105 finals.

Geology/Geography-Carl Priesendorf

They have split this into 2 components: Earth sciences and Human geography. Each has 3 disciplineoutcomes. There will be 15 questions embedded in the final exam. They will be assessing gen ed outcome Information Technology #1.

History-Bill Young

They have decided upon 3 discipline level outcomes and will be assessing the 1st of these. The gen ed outcome to be assessed is Communication-productive skills. They have created a rubric to use with an embedded essay in each HIST 120 and HIST121 courses. They will be norming in the fall. Twelve fulltime faculty will participate. No adjuncts atthis time will be participating.

Philosophy-Doug Fishel

They have determined 5 specific discipline outcomes. They will assess the last outcome with a series of questions. They will assess Gen ed outcome #3with an essay on the final exam.

Psychology-Kim Glackin

They have chosen to use GeneralPsychology since it is a prerequisite. They are using APA guideline for the discipline outcomes. They will be assessing Gen ed outcome Critical Thinking #1 by using a stand-alone multiple choice assessment. All on ground PSYC courses will be included.

Anthropology-Melissa Eaton

They have decided upon 5 discipline outcomes. They will assess Gen Ed outcome Information Literacy #4 with 10 multiple choice questions embedded in the final exam. For online courses it will be given as a stand-alone assessment.

First Cohort

The 2nd Semester report is due June11, 2012. The 1stand 2ndcohorts will present what they are doing at the Summer Symposium: Countdown to Re-accreditation on July 20th, 2012 at the PV Education Center. Meetings with the disciplines will be scheduled for the fall to discuss fall 2012 assessment results and next steps.

Second Cohort

The 1st Semester report for the 2nd cohort is due June 11, 2012.The 2nd Cohort includes Chemistry, Geology/Geography, History, Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology/Anthropology.

Third and Fourth cohorts

Dates for future meetings were presented.

Assessment Reports

Assessment Plan update

Kristy compiled a current list of assessments being done throughout MCC. This list serves as documentation for us as well as HLC.

Human Diversity

The group has met a couple of times and wishes to meet again soon. They have drafted 4 outcomes and decided upon a rubric. These outcomes are applicable to all Human Diversity courses. They will be deciding on an assessment for fall 2012 or spring 2013 implementation.

Campus Reports

  • BR-GRIT inventory survey results and final semester data analysis is impending. Plans are to present the data at the next DACC meeting.
  • BTC-The assessment and curriculum committees are in the process of merging.
  • LV-No new updates
  • MW-The committee is a hybrid Curriculum and Assessment committee.No new items were introduced.
  • PV-hasn’t met.

Old Business

  • MCC hosted the 2nd annual Regional Community College Assessment Conference on April 20, 2012 at MCC-Penn Valley, Education Center. There were around 130 participantsrepresenting 23 institutions.
  • Overall it was very successful and received positive feedback. It is being determined where next year’s conference will be held.
  • The MCC conference website ( all of the presentations in PDF format for review.

New Business

  • A schedule of future meetings was presented for the next year. It was decided that there did not need to be meetings in both June and July. The July meeting was canceled, however, since then we have rescheduled. There is now no June meeting, but there will now be a meeting in July.
