Welcome

A very special welcome to this year’s Sports Awards presentation. This evening provides us with an opportunity to say thanks and well done to the UCD sports people who through their achievements have brought prestige and honour to their clubs and to the University.

The full list of your achievements is outlined in this booklet and we continue to be amazed at the scale and diversity of your success. Recognising your success we have commissioned a special UCD sports pin badge for each person whose achievements are outlined in this booklet. These will be given to your club captain for distribution and we hope that you will wear this badge of achievement with pride.

As well as recognising your individual achievements, it is important to also give credit to the clubs and particularly the committees of each club who have administered to the needs of their members throughout the year. The efforts of the clubs and the respective committees is very much appreciated.

On behalf of the Athletic Union Council Executive committee and the committees of our affiliated clubs, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of UCD Sport, UCD Sport & Fitness, UCD Student Centre, UCD Buildings Office, UCD Bursars Office and the other University Authorities for their continued support of club activities. As we all know the provision of sporting opportunities in UCD is a team effort, and we are most thankful for their assistance, encouragement and provision of excellent facilities.

I would like to specifically acknowledge Dr. Martin Butler, Vice President for Students for his on-going commitment and enthusiastic support of UCD Sport. In particular, I would like to thank him for his support of this evenings celebrations.

Thanks is also due to the many sponsors and benefactors of our clubs and teams, for their continued support of our students. In particular, I would like to acknowledge Bank of Ireland Montrose for their sponsorship of the balloons for this evenings event.

In conclusion, congratulations to everyone involved in the UCD Sports Awards 2012/13. For those of you graduating, we hope that you have enjoyed your involvement with UCD sports clubs. For those of you who shall be returning next year, we look forward to your energetic involvement with us again.
