Dear Reader,

At the request of The Hillcrest School Board of Trustees, our Staff is currently being assisted by Kevin Palmer, Limited Statutory Manager (LSM) to guide our school forward into the future. Our 2nd Community Hui (meeting) has been set for Monday the 16th of October, 6:30pm. In our school hall.

Our school roll is at a critical point. At the beginning of 2018 Hillcrest will operate as a Sole Charge School.

In laymen’s terms this will look like:

·  A sole charge Teaching Principal who will teach all students (yrs 1-8)

·  This Principal will have a .3 Principal Relief Teacher which equals 1 ½ days, per week

·  A Teacher Aid who is currently allocated 1 hr each day as per our needs this year

.

You are invited to come along and give your views about the future of this beautiful and historic school within Pahiatua. We need your help to determine where to from here?

Talking points are;

·  Is there still a place for Hillcrest School in Pahiatua?

·  Parental choice

·  Viability/sustainability

·  Community perceptions of Hillcrest school

·  Zoning

·  Ideas on Points of Difference

Points of interest for Hillcrest School, is that we;

·  achieved a 3yr ERO review that comes up in 2018

·  financially sound

·  that our pupil teacher ratio is excellent with sound student achievement against National Standards

·  have great facilities and park like grounds, with room to expand

·  accommodate 2Meke (After School and Holiday Program). Shape Up (fitness club), and long may they continue.

We encourage our community to be involved in the future of Hillcrest School and its heritage within Pahiatua.

Monday 16th October, Hillcrest School Hall, @ 6:30pm

Refreshments and light finger food provided. Parking available at bottom and top of drive.

Notes from the last meeting 11th September 2017 available on request

Sincerely

Graham Conner Aroha Payne
