MEC Mohono accelerates delivery of community agricultural projects

Segwaelane: The MEC for North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ms Desbo Mohono, will on Thursday, 20th March hand over six agricultural projects to their beneficiaries in the Bojanala Platinum District, this in an endeavour to create sustainable job opportunities and increased access to sufficient and nutritious food, particularly among rural communities.
Among the projects that MEC Mohono will hand over is the Go Big Poultry Project in Segwaelane which has since the completion of its R1.5 million broiler house, produced more than 40000 broiler chickens per cycle. Other projects, Matlopyane Dryland Cropping Co-operative in Robega and Mafenyatlala Primary Co-operative in Klipkuil, have received tractors, implements and crop production inputs.
Barokologadi Communal Property Association has been provided with livestock handling facilities, Aregaseng Cropping Project in Jericho was assisted with crop production inputs, while the irrigation infrastructure and tunnels were installed at Itokologo Vegetable Project in Madidi.
These projects were initiated by the communities concerned in an effort to enhance and improve productivity of various agricultural commodities, and the Department in turn provided infrastructure funding and capacity building programmes for the beneficiaries.
MEC Mohono says the handing over of these projects will also add to existing opportunities in the sector and further develop these projects by ensuring that the beneficiaries are financially independent and self sustained.
“We have high expectations that the beneficiaries will maintain these projects at high standards and that the yield of quality agricultural products will grow steadily thus improving their livelihood and that of the communities,” expressed MEC Desbo Mohono.
