RBE PTA MEETING MINUTES

February 11, 2009

*Meeting called to order at 7:20pm, by Lisa McPeek, PTA President

*President’s Report: The meet and greet Dr. Goudy, superintendent, on Jan. 31st, went very well. A special thank you was given to Shirley Bihary and Gina Worthy, who represented RBE. Dr. Goudy has been invited to speak at the PTA meeting on March 11th, to introduce himself and meet the PTA. It will be announced if he can attend.

The Talent Show on Jan 31st, was an excellent show and the kids did a fabulous job. Thanks you to CornerstoneFriendsChurch for allowing us to use their facility and to all parents for their help. Special thank you to Pastor Mark Winner, for all his help and special touches he brought to the show.

Board position available: If you are interested in filling the Corresponding Secretary position for the 2009/2010 school year please see Lisa McPeek or any board member for information.

The James Garfield home will be open President’s Day and admission is free.

Spring Pictures are February 19th.

*Secretary’s Report: Tish Van Arsdale was absent. No Report.

*Corresponding Secretary’s Report: Thank you from Debbie Cordes for meet/greet w/ Dr. Goudy, First Grade Teachers for easels, Mrs. Bacher for wedding gift, and Mrs. Headley for doughnut party.

*Treasurer Report: Current balance is $17,476.73, there are some payments outstanding

*Teacher Reps. Report: Miss Bayuk reported that the teachers would like to thank the PTA for the A.R. Program. They are experiencing some problems with not having some tests for books read by students available. They would like to make sure the correct program was received. Lisa McPeek will get the contact name for the company, Renaissance, and teachers will contact the rep. to get the problem resolved.

Mrs. Rogaliner has not received reimbursement for receipts she turned in. Christina Lewis will look into.

Mrs. Bacher reported that Mrs. Rogaliner had her baby, Kenton Robert, and mom and baby are doing well.

Hobby Night went very well. All money collected from the auction goes toward the RBE Scholarship fund. A special thank you was given to Edward Stocker for his help.

Amanda Gray from Smart Tech will attend the March PTA meeting to give a presentation on the smart boards. 4th grade teachers are interested in obtaining these for their classrooms.

Mrs. Bacher also presented a possible idea for next year, a subscription to Brain.com, a program with different activities enhancing skills in all subjects. A one year subscription is $250.00 for each classroom. She asked if PTA would purchase a trial subscription for next year. To be discussed further.

*Principal’s Report: Principal not present, no report

*Committee Reports:

COSI: Tawnya Petti reported set up is March 11th, the program runs March 12 – March 13. See Tawnya if you would like to help. Lisa McPeek reported the cost of COSI has increased $100.00 for next year. The total cost is $2,000.00. She asked Mrs. Bacher to poll all teachers to see if they would like to continue the program. Mrs. Bacher will have an answer next week.

Science Night: Mrs. Bacher reported Mr. Gladwell is heading Science Night and it will be held March 25th.

Homework Helper: Lisa McPeek reported all is going well, but more volunteers are needed. If interested contact Beth Ardern.

Market Day: Lisa McPeek reported January we had 25 customers and earned $171.84. This is low compared to previous months. Orders for February are due on the internet by Thursday at noon. Nicole Martin will co-chair Market Day with Christina Lewis. Thank you Nicole. Also, RBE will be receiving a new Market Day rep.

Yearbook: Lisa McPeek reported orders are due February 26.

Book Fair: Kearsten Wood reported the book fair will be held April 27 – May 1 and family night is April 29, from 6:30 – 8:00pm.

Right to Read Week: Lisa McPeek reported it will be held March 30 – April 3, and has a camp theme.

Scholarships: Lisa McPeek reported she will be getting in touch with Chris Smith on getting names and nominations.

Spring Carnival: Lisa McPeek reported the carnival will be held March 21, from 11:00am – 3:00pm. There will be 2 Chinese auctions, one for kids and one for adults. The grand prizes will be a boys and girls bike, digital camera, and 2 other items yet to be determined. She asked the teachers to check with the student council to see if they would like to run the jail.

Fundraising: Tawnya Petti reported there will be a Chuck-E-Cheese night on
Wednesday, March 4, 3:00 – 9:00pm. Lisa McPeek reported: Box Tops – no update, Giant Eagle – we have 312points for the 2nd quarter, the cut off date to earn points for this year is March 18th, Tyson – no update, Target –$45.63 has been accumulated towards our next check – when $50.00 is reached a check will be sent, RBE has received $590.31 through August 2008 and currently have 17 enrolled in program. Anyone with a Target credit card can register our school I.D. #84462 and RBE will receive 1% of all purchases. Nestle – 200 points have been earned and cut off is March for this school year.

Calloway Card Fundraiser – company requires a commitment signed by the principal to proceed with the fundraiser. Cards are $10.00 and RBE receives 60% of total sales. RBE will pre-order 100 cards. Any cards sold over the 100 will be order with a 3 day turnaround. The fundraiser will run for 2 weeks and the PTA will provide the student participation incentives. For each card a student sells, their name will go into a drawing for a gift card.

*New Business: no new business

*Old Business: Lisa McPeek asked the teachers to decide what a good gift for the school would be, in celebrating Red Bird’s 50th birthday. Teachers will discuss.
