TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE USE OF PERSONAL LAPTOPS IN THE COMMUNITY CENTRE
This document must be read, understood and signed before connection to the ……….. Network
1Your laptop must be protected by up-to-date anti-virus software and an internet firewall.
Failure to ensure that your laptop is free of virus’s, Trojans, worms and other malicious programs or code could result in damage to the …………….. network or loss of data to other network users.
To verify that Windows Firewall is protecting your computer: Click Start, and then click Control Panel. From the Control Panel, click Security Center. If Windows Firewall shows On, you are protected. If not check () the On (recommended) button.
2 Your laptop must have all current Microsoft updates as appropriate. All other software must have current updates or patches as appropriate.
3Damage caused to the ……………….. network, occasioned by any failure to adhere to the above, may render the user liable to the cost of repairing the network.
4You will only attempt to connect your laptop to a designated access point for which you have explicitly been given permission to connect to. Attempting to connect to any other place in the ………….. network is absolutely forbidden.
5You must not engage in any activity on the network that would be deemed unlawful. This includes, but is not limited to: 1storage, 2production or reproduction of obscene or defamatory material,3 any activities which breach the Data Protection Act, 4any activities which breach the Computer Misuse Act.
6It is expressly forbidden to run peer-to-peer file-sharing software such as Direct Connect, KaZaA, Morpheus, Gnutella, LimeWire, or any similar program. Downloading un-copyrighted media from these programs is illegal. Their use could also adversely effect the normal operation of the …………... network.
7Whilst connected, viayour computer, to the ………………. network you must not permit any other person to access the network via that connection, whether by giving physical access to the computer or by configuring the computer to act as a wireless access point, router, hub or switch.
8If you are given a password to use you must protect its integrity and The …………… network security at all times.
9The …………….. network shall not be used for commercial purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, issuing of unsolicited commercial email (SPAM), operation of commercial websites or use of email for commercial activities. Only the activities listed above are permitted. No other activities or actions, or attempts at activities or actions, with or without intent, are permitted. Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing it is forbidden to attempt to operate any form of server whatsoever, or permit others to access services on your laptop from any access points that are available now or may become available in the future.
10As the user,it is your responsibility to ensure that your computer is set up correctly to comply with these conditions of use, and such that it can be used effectively when connected to any ……………..access point. …………. has no responsibility whatsoever in this matter. Whilst ……………. will ensure that the network is secure and protected at all times, it cannot be held responsible for any damage, virus, Trojan, worm or other malicious program or code which may gain access to your laptop during connection to the ……………….. network.
